Following the shocking nine-wicket defeat that the Delhi Ranji Trophy team suffered to Pondicherry in the first game of the 2023/24 competition, which took place here on Monday, Yash Dhull has been ousted from his position as captain of the squad. The twenty-one-year-old player, who was the captain of India’s team that won the Under-19 World Cup in the Caribbean two years ago, scored two and twenty-three in the match that took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Group D.

It was at the discretion of the selectors. In my opinion, the most essential thing is for Yash to get himself some runs. He is the cricket player of the future for Delhi. Care and attention are required for him. It is important to give priority to everything that gives him the ability to focus on his hitting and scoring runs. He doesn’t need to have distractions off the field, according to Delhi coach Devang Gandhi, who was also a former national selector.
Himmat Singh will be the captain of Delhi’s team for their second match against Jammu and Kashmir, which will begin on Friday in Jammu. The paucity of leadership choices is shown by the fact that the 27-year-old has been promoted despite having mediocre results against Pondicherry (27 and 5). There would be no change in Ayush Badoni’s role as vice-captain. Considering that Ishant Sharma has informed the team that he will not be able to participate in any away matches this season and that Navdeep Saini will be joining India A for their matches against the England Lions commencing on Friday.
At the beginning of the encounter, Delhi made three changes to the roster of 18 players that they had selected for the contest. They have brought in the opener Salil Malhotra, as well as the pacers Kuldip Yadav and Prince Yadav. Vikas Mishra, a left-arm spinner, has come out of the lineup. Pondicherry has been competing in India’s highest first-class league for the last six years, and this is without a doubt their most significant accomplishment yet. With a lead of 30 runs, Delhi began the fourth and final day of the match with a score of 126/8.
