Born on January 9, 2003, Vikramjit Singh is a cricketer who was born in the Netherlands but was born in India. 2019 was the year that he made his debut with the Netherlands national cricket team, playing the opening batsman position with his left hand. In Cheema Khurd, Punjab, India, on January 9, 2003, Singh was born into a family that adhered to the Sikh religion. Khushi Cheema, his grandpa, came to the Netherlands after the anti-Sikh riots that occurred in India in 1984. He began his life in the Netherlands as a cab driver and eventually established a transportation firm in Amstelveen.
Over the subsequent decades, Singh’s family relocated back and forth between the Netherlands and India. It wasn’t until Singh was seven years old that they finally made the Netherlands their permanent home. Peter Borren, the captain of the Netherlands, gave Singh a chance to play club cricket for VRA Amsterdam when he was just eleven years old. Borren was the one who discovered Singh. Borren and Amit Uniyal provided him with individual tutoring, and he spent several years attending Uniyal’s academy in Chandigarh.
When he was just 15 years old, he made his debut for the Netherlands A team. During the 2019 Under-19 World Cup Europe Qualifier, Singh was a member of the Netherlands national under-19 cricket team competing in the tournament. In the end, he ended as the second-highest run-scorer in the event, after Tomas Mackintosh of Scotland. He scored 304 runs throughout five innings, including 133 runs against France.
The Netherlands’ Twenty20 International (T20I) roster for the 2019–20 Ireland Tri-Nation Series includes Singh as a member of the team. On the 19th of September 2019, he made his debut for the Netherlands in a Twenty20 International match against Scotland. In April 2020, he was one of seventeen cricketers residing in the Netherlands who were selected to be a part of the senior squad for the team. On May 11, 2021, he made his debut in the List A competition for the Netherlands A team, which was playing against the Ireland Wolves when they were on tour in Ireland.

Later on in the same month, he was one of the individuals selected to be a part of the Dutch One-Day International (ODI) team for their series against Scotland. His inclusion in the Dutch one-day international team for their series against New Zealand was announced in February of 2022. It was on March 29, 2022, that he played his first one-day international for the Netherlands against New Zealand. In July 2023, Singh surpassed his previous one-day international personal high of 88 runs by hitting 110 runs against Oman. This effort contributed to the team’s victory in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which took place in Harare, Zimbabwe.
After that, in the subsequent match, the Netherlands triumphed against Scotland, so securing a spot for themselves in the competition for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Vikramjit Singh, who was one of the most influential positives for the Netherlands in their first match against Pakistan, is momentarily at a loss for words as he recalls one of his favorite shots from that fifty-point score. An imitation of the flip shot that he took off Shaheen Shah Afridi from a line that was close to the fourth stump is what he does. A grin appears on his face as he replies, “That was very sweet, and I enjoyed that.”
The Netherlands got off to a strong start in their pursuit of 287 when Vikramjit struck Shaheen for three boundaries, all of which occurred inside the powerplays. The Pakistani team was on edge for a short period during his third-wicket partnership with Bas de Leede. However, his toe-ended pull shot that hit deep midwicket led to a collapse in the team’s performance. A few overs earlier, he had cleared the same long boundary against legspinner Shadab Khan by hitting a shot that was quite identical to the one he had just played.
He said that he did not regret making the effort at the shot, although he did wish that he had timed it better. To compete in the World Cup, Vikramjit, along with a few other members of his squad, would be going back to the land where his ancestors were born. The fact that there are no games in Punjab, the region from where his family originates, does not prevent him from feeling a sense of affinity with the place. In the 10 days leading up to his arrival in Hyderabad, he had spent his time in Bengaluru exercising on a variety of surfaces.

Because of this, Vikramjit often travels back to India to play, and he has also spent a significant amount of time in Jalandhar honing his skills with Taruwar Kohli, who won the India Under-19 World Cup in the past. It was during Kohli’s time playing club cricket in the Netherlands between 2017 and 2019 that he became further acquainted with Vikramjit. During that time, Kohli would often visit Vikramjit throughout his time there. That finally developed into a relationship between a mentor and a protégé.
The spinners took three wickets while Bangladesh, who batted first at the site, scored 159/5 runs even though they were able to capture three wickets. In their response, the spinners from Bangladesh demonstrated their worth by continuing to take wickets at regular intervals, which slowed down the pace at which the Men in Orange were scoring. Vikramjit Singh, the opening batter for the Netherlands, may not have had a huge influence on the match between India and New Delhi during the Super 12 stage of the Twenty20 World Cup 2022, but his life path has already been packed with extraordinary accomplishments.
It is widely believed that he is the Netherlands’ greatest chance for the top order, even though he is just 19 years old and plays for the Netherlands at the highest level of cricket. His tale, on the other hand, extends well beyond the realm of cricket, with deep-seated ties to India, and more specifically to the state of Punjab. Allow me to take you on a trip through the extraordinary life of Vikramjit Singh. Khushi Cheema, Vikramjit Singh’s grandpa, is originally from the hamlet of Cheema Khurd, which is located in the Indian state of Punjab.
