The announcement that he will be a member of Sri Lanka’s team for the 2023 Asian Games came in September of the same year. On October 4, 2023, he played his first Twenty20 International (T20I) match for Sri Lanka, which was their match against Afghanistan.
A fellow spinner named Wanindu Hasaranga was unable to participate in the event owing to an injury, therefore the 2016 champion decided to recruit the Sri Lankan leg-spinner as a substitute for him. Throughout 33 Twenty20 matches, Vijaykanth has taken 42 wickets. Also, the 22-year-old has participated in one Twenty20 International, in which he achieved statistics of one for 28.
Viyaskanth is now playing for the Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League, the MI Emirates in the International League T20, and the Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League. Furthermore, he is also a member of the Jaffna Kings. In preparation for their match against LSG, SRH has given Vijayakanth Viyaskanth his first appearance, while Lucknow has welcomed Quinton de Kock back into their roster. Following Wanindu Hasaranga’s decision to withdraw from the campaign due to an injury, SRH decided to bring in Viyaskanth as a substitute for him.
At the 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, Viyaskanth, who is 22 years old, played for Sri Lanka in one Twenty20 International. He also excelled for MI Emirates in the International Twenty20 Cup, where he took eight wickets in four games. Arshin Kulkarni was the opener for LSG, and the kid did not have the greatest of times with the bat. But the team still won. The injury that Mohsin Khan sustained during the match against KKR will also prevent him from playing for them. As a substitute for Wanindu Hasaranga for the rest of the Indian Premier League 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad has recruited Sri Lankan leggie Vijayakanth Viyaskanth.
After being purchased by the winner of the 2016 Indian Premier League for a total of Rs 1.5 crore at the players’ auction in December of last year, Hasaranga was scheduled to make his debut with SRH in the Indian Premier League. However, he was unable to fulfill his ambitions of playing any part in his new organization during the current season since he was experiencing persistent discomfort in his left foot.
Following his acquisition in the 2022 players’ auction for an astounding sum of Rs 10.75 crore, Hasaranga played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru for a total of two seasons.
After having a successful first season with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), during which he took 26 wickets, the legspinner was discharged the following year after playing a limited role. Additionally, Vijayakanth is a legspinner from Sri Lanka who has only ever competed for his country in a single Twenty20 International up to this point. He is now a member of SRH, and his starting salary is fifty lakh rupees. Vijayakanth, who is 22 years old, was a member of the Sri Lankan team that competed in the Asian Games the previous year. He participated in one of the matches, and he got a wicket of thirty-two runs from four overs played.
Throughout his career, the teenager has participated in 33 Twenty20 matches and has taken 42 wickets at an economy rate of 6.76. While everything is going on, SRH has had a mixed start to the season, winning two matches and losing as many as they have won. They started their season with a defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders by a margin of just four runs, but they followed it up with a batting performance that broke records against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad.
