Throughout the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, on March 6, 2018, he made his debut for India in a Twenty20 International match against Sri Lanka. He dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim with the use of the Umpire Decision Review System, which was his maiden wicket in Twenty20 Internationals. This occurred in his second match. He was selected as the player of the match for his performance in the second match of the 2018 Nidahas Trophy. He got two wickets for 32 runs, and India won the match by a score of six wickets.
It was announced in April 2019 that he would be selected for India’s team to compete in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. His inclusion, which came ahead of more seasoned players like Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina, generated a lively buzz in the media at the time. In an unexpected announcement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) selected him as one of the five players participating in the competition. He made history by being the third player in World Cup history to take a wicket with his very first delivery, which he did during the match against Pakistan.
After that, Shankar had an injury that prevented him from playing in India’s remaining two matches. Mayank Agarwal was selected to take his spot in the lineup. Shankar announced his engagement to Vaishali Visweswaran on the 20th of August, 2020, and he married her on the 27th of January, 2021. In the year 2021, on October 30th, the couple became parents for the first time.
The current Indian Premier League 2024 has allowed the bowlers to have two bouncers every over to make the competition between the bat and the ball more equitable. Vijay Shankar, an all-rounder for the Gujarat Titans, believes that for the rule to be successful, bowlers will need to be prudent and utilize it appropriately. This is even though it seems to be a welcome step, especially when because cricket continues to overwhelmingly favor hitters, particularly in Twenty20 matches.
The all-rounder also discussed the smooth transition that took place inside the Gujarat Titans due to the promotion of Shubman Gill to the position of captain, replacing Hardik Pandya. Shankar expressed his admiration for Gill’s leadership and the supportive team environment that was developed under the guidance of coach Ashish Nehra. According to Shankar, “every individual gets their opportunity and are treated equally,” which helps to create an environment that is both safe and welcoming to everyone.
