A professional cricketer from England, Samuel William Billings was born on June 15, 1991. He is now based in England. In particular, Billings attributed the development of his hand-eye coordination to the use of racquets, which helped him improve his batting abilities. Before enrolling at Haileybury College in Hertfordshire, Billings was a student at New Beacon School in Sevenoaks. During his time there, he was a member of the college’s cricket team regularly. From Loughborough University, he earned a degree in Sport and Exercise Science after completing his studies there. The fact that Billings was “nowhere near good enough” to become a professional cricketer before his time at university is something that he attributes to the fact that it inspired him to put in a lot of effort to bring out his skill.
The first time Billings played for Kent came in May 2011, when he made his debut for the county in a first-class match against his university team, Loughborough MCCU. Billings was also a part of the Kent squad when he was attending university. In addition, he made his debut in the List A competition for Kent in the 2011 season, when they played the Netherlands in the 2011 Clydesdale Bank 40. He did so by filling in for Geraint Jones, who was the usual wicket-keeper for Kent. Billings participated in four matches in the Friends Provident Twenty20 tournament in 2011, in addition to making three further appearances in the List A competition during the 2011 season.
In the 2013 Friends Life Twenty20 competition, Billings took over for Jones, who had previously held the position of wicket-keeper for England, after Jones had led the county in one-day runs scored in 2012. As the season came to a close, he played wicketkeeping in the County Championship, beating Jones’ record of 115 straight Championship appearances for Kent. After that, he played Sydney Grade Cricket for Penrith District Cricket Club over the English winter of 2013–2014.
During the 2014 season, Billings established himself as Kent’s best option for the wicket-keeping position. Following his participation in the champion county match in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of the 2015 season, he went on to score 693 runs at an average of 29.80 throughout the 2015 County Championship season. Additionally, he made his debuts for England in both the One Day and Twenty20 formats. After receiving his Kent county cap in August 2015, at the annual Canterbury Cricket Week, he signed a contract extension with Kent in January of the following year.

After spending the winter playing one-day international cricket with England and participating in both the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 competitions, Billings returned to Kent at the end of May. During his absence, he missed six County Championship matches in addition to the beginning of both one-day competitions. also became just the second wicket-keeper in Kent’s history to take seven catches in an innings during the 2016 season, and also earned the distinction of becoming the tenth wicket-keeper to claim nine dismissals in a first-class match.
As well as playing in the Pakistan Super League and the Indian Premier League once again, Billings spent the winter of the next year playing for England in Bangladesh, Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, and England once more in India and the West Indies. Due to his commitments to England, he was absent from Kent for a portion of the 2017 season. for that time, he participated in just six of the county’s County Championship matches, although he was always present for the Twenty20 Blast.
After Sam Northeast was removed from his position as Kent captain at the beginning of 2018, Billings was chosen to the position as his successor. This was done even though there was considerable concern over his participation in the 2018 Indian Premier League.
