Despite this, the match was called off after the toss was completed because a member of the West Indies squad who was not participating in the match had tested positive for COVID-19. Play resumed two days later when the matchups were rearranged since there were no more COVID-19 instances. This was because the match went into suspension rather than being abandoned.
Halfway through the third phase of the pursuit, Meredith seemed to be in pain and gestured to his side. This occurred after he had delivered a delivery that was 152 kilometers per hour. After sustaining a side strain when playing for Tasmania in a one-day cup game in September, this was his first game back at the domestic level since taking the injury. Jeff Vaughan, the coach of the Hurricanes, said to Channel 7 Meredith that the team will undergo scans on Tuesday.
To get off to a solid start in the Marsh One-Day Cup season on their home grounds at the Junction Oval, Victoria prevailed against Tasmania by three wickets with the use of a scorching session from Riley Meredith. The Tigers were able to stay in the game because of Beau Webster’s incredible performance. He followed up his game-high score of 83 (from 86 balls) with a two-wicket burst with the ball, which left the hosts in a precarious position with a total of 5-172 and having to chase 225.
However, rising gun Campbell Kellaway, who is 20 years old and has played extensively for Australia A over the winter, struck a crucial 46. Will Sutherland, who was 29 not out off 20 balls, then brought the Vics home with a six-over long-on with 31 balls to spare. Peter Handscomb, the captain of Victoria, who was coming off of a great run of one-day form for Leicestershire in the United Kingdom, raced to a fluent half-century off just 38 balls, which broke the back of the run chase. Tom Rogers’ 45 also contributed to the success of the chase.

When the Punjab Kings paid INR 8 crore (about US$ 1.096 million) for Riley Meredith’s services on Thursday, he became the fifth-most expensive uncapped player since the beginning of the Indian Premier League auction. Meredith, a fast bowler from Tasmania who is 24 years old, has been in the spotlight for quite some time as a potential future player for Australia, notably by Shane Warne. He will get the opportunity to demonstrate his skills in advance of the Twenty20 World Cup, which will take place this year.
The 2018–2019 season was a home summer that proved to be a breakthrough for Meredith in all forms. Throughout eight Sheffield Shield matches, he got 27 wickets for Tasmania. In the Big Bash League, he grabbed 16 wickets for the Hobart Hurricanes, which helped them get to the semifinals. Warne, who has been a strong promoter of Meredith’s skills over the last three years, had already begun to make predictions about his potential for international selection then.
Meredith was only able to make six appearances in the Big Bash League in 2019-20 due to a side strain. However, when he did make it onto the field, he bowled at a high pace, taking ten wickets with an economy rate of just 6.68 throughout the season. In addition, he was able to dismiss both David Warner and Steven Smith in a Marsh Cup match against New South Wales. It was at that point that his performances gained the attention of Australia’s selectors, and as a result, he was selected for the extended limited-overs squad that would visit England in 2020. However, he was not given the chance to participate in the trip.
