“Pathum” Having been born on the 18th of May in 1998, Nissanka Silva is a professional cricketer from Sri Lanka who represents the country in all three forms of the game. The month of March 2021 saw his first appearance for the Sri Lanka cricket team on the international stage, and he is presently serving as the team’s regular opening batsman. On February 9, 2024, Nissanka became the first Sri Lankan to accomplish the achievement of scoring a double hundred throughout a one-day international.
The beginning of his cricket career began when he was attending Kalutara Vidyalaya, and he then transferred to Isipathana College in Colombo. During the School Cricket Championship, he struck an unbroken double century of 205 runs off of 190 balls versus President’s College, Rajagiriya, at the Colts stadium in Colombo. On March 17, 2017, he made his debut in the List A competition for the Hambantota District in the Districts One Day Tournament for the 2016–17 season.
On the 24th of February in 2018, he made his debut in the Twenty20 tournament while playing for Badureliya Sports Club in the 2017–18 SLC Twenty20 Tournament. The announcement of his inclusion in Kandy’s team for the 2017–18 Super Four Provincial Tournament came in March of 2018. He was also selected to be a member of Kandy’s team for the 2018 Super Provincial One Day Tournament, which took place the following month. The announcement that he will be a member of Kandy’s team for the 2019 Super Provincial One Day Tournament came in March of this year.

The SLC Greens side that he was selected to play for in the 2021 SLC Invitational T20 League event was announced in August of the same year. His selection to play for the Colombo Stars in the 2021 Lanka Premier League came about as a result of the players’ draft that took place in November of that year. It was in July of 2022 that the Kandy Falcons decided to sign him to play for them in the 2022 Lanka Premier League competition. Through his performance against SSC Pathum on the 17th of December 2023 at Major Clubs Limited during the competition 2022/2023, he achieved his fifth List A century.
In the process of chasing down 263 runs from 35 overs, he knocked off 13 boundaries and six sixes while scoring 135 runs off 96 deliveries. His efforts were futile, as the NCC ended up losing the match by a score of 14 runs. A first-class series against Ireland A was scheduled to take place in January 2019, and he was selected to be a part of Sri Lanka A’s team. Throughout two matches, he amassed 258 runs, making him the highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka A. In February of 2019, he achieved his one-thousandth run while batting for Nondescripts Cricket Club against Colombo Cricket Club. This achievement occurred during the 2018–19 Premier League Tournament.
He ended the competition with 1,088 runs, making him the Nondescripts Cricket Club’s highest run-scorer. He played seven matches throughout the tournament. His inclusion in Sri Lanka’s team for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, which will take place in Bangladesh, was announced in November of this year. In the latter part of the same month, he was selected to be a member of Sri Lanka’s team that would compete in the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games in 2019. Following their defeat to Bangladesh by seven wickets in the championship match, the Sri Lankan squad managed to secure the silver medal.
Nissanka was selected to be a member of Sri Lanka’s limited-overs team for the series that they were going to play against the West Indies in February of 2021. In the Twenty20 International (T20I) match that took place on March 3, 2021, he made his debut for Sri Lanka against the West Indies country. In the next three days, Nissanka was included in Sri Lanka’s Test team, which was also for the series that they were playing against the West Indies. In the One-Day International (ODI) match that took place on March 10, 2021, he made his debut for Sri Lanka against the West Indies country.

He made his first appearance for Sri Lanka in a test match on March 21, 2021, when they played the West Indies. In the second innings of the contest, he made 103 runs, making him the fourth batter for Sri Lanka to achieve a century in his first appearance in a Test match. A Sri Lankan batsman made history by being the first to strike a century on his debut away from home. The addition of his name to Sri Lanka’s team for the 2021 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup took place on October 1st, 2021.
Throughout the World Cup, Nissanka amassed a total of 221 runs across eight matches, including three half-centuries. On January 16, 2022, Nissanka got his first half-century in a One-Day International match against Zimbabwe. The three matches he played resulted in him scoring 146 runs, including two half-centuries. Nissanka was determined to be the Player of the Series as a result of his performance. The Twenty20 International series that Sri Lanka played against Australia in February 2022 ended in a 4-1 loss for Sri Lanka.
During the third one-day international match that Sri Lanka played against Australia in June 2022, Nissanka achieved his maiden century in an ODI match. He did it with 137 runs, and Sri Lanka won the match by six wickets. Nissanka became ill with COVID-19 while playing in the Test series against Australia, and as a result, she was unable to participate in the series. He achieved 598 T20I runs during the Twenty20 International series against Australia, which surpassed the Sri Lankan record for the most runs scored in the first 20 innings of a Twenty20 International for Sri Lanka, which was previously held by Kumar Sangakkara, who had scored 576 runs.
