As a replacement for Alzarri Joseph, he was part of the West Indies Test team for their series against England in January 2019, although he did not participate in the match. Thomas recorded his first five-wicket haul in one-day internationals in March 2019, while he was playing England in a one-day international series. The West Indies announced in April 2019 that he would be a member of their team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Thomas had the honor of being selected man of the match for the first match that the West Indies played against Pakistan.
In preparation for the 2019–20 season, Cricket West Indies presented him with a central contract for the very first time in July of this year. Thomas recorded his first five-wicket haul in a Twenty20 International match on March 4, 2020, while he was playing against Sri Lanka in the opening match of the tournament.
Thomas was identified as one of eleven reserve players in the West Indies Test squad for their series against England in June 2020. The series was scheduled to take place in England. The beginning of the Test series was initially planned to take place in May 2020; however, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the start date was pushed back to July 2020.
In preparation for the three-match series against India, the West Indies have brought back Shimron Hetmyer and Oshane Thomas into the One-Day International team. A communiqué from Cricket West Indies states that Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder are not available for selection, while Keemo Paul is not available due to an injury. As a result of their rehabilitation after surgery, fast bowler Jayden Seales and legspinner Yannic Cariah have both returned to the field. Additionally, left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has returned to the field after recovering from an injury to his lower back.
Even though Hetmyer had declared himself available for selection, the management of the West Indies decided not to include him in the squad that would compete in the One-Day International World Cup Qualifier in May. This decision was reached because they wanted to provide a longer run to the players who had done well in the series that led up to the tournament. Following a loss in each of their four out of seven matches in the qualifying round, the West Indies were unable to advance to the main tournament. During the home Twenty20 International series against New Zealand in August 2022, Hetmyer made his last appearance for the West Indies. In July of 2021, he played his last one-day international match against Australia in Barbados.
