He was doing a variety of jobs to make ends meet, including removing furniture, gardening, installing air conditioners, and laboring on building sites. Ellis wasn’t even sure whether he was going to make it as a cricket player. He was working a variety of jobs. Ellis, who is now a centrally contracted player for Cricket Australia (CA) in addition to being an established performer on the Twenty20 franchise circuit, has made those days of hardship a distant memory by the time March 2024 rolls around.
A few years ago, Ellis, who is now 29 years old and has established himself as a solid foreign player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), found himself at home during the off-season. However, these days, the months of April and May look quite different for Ellis, who has established himself as a trustworthy abroad player. He is presently in his fourth season with the Punjab Kings (PBKS), who purchased him in the mega auction in 2022 for the basic price of INR 75 lakh. He is currently doing well in his career.
Even though Ellis began this season on the bench, he had a very good Indian Premier League 2023 season. He finished as Punjab’s second-highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets in 10 games at an economy rate of 8.92. It is interesting to note that Ellis was brought in as a last-minute substitute for Riley Meredith, who was injured when he was originally linked up with the Kings in 2021. This came as a major surprise to Ellis.
The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali, is where the PBKS have established their pre-season camp for the 2024 Indian Premier League. This is also the venue where they will be playing their home matches in the current India Premier League season. While the bulk of the players on the team, including Shikhar Dhawan, who is the captain, have already begun their preparations at the training facility, the remaining players are scheduled to join the team this week.
