Nandre Burger is a South African cricketer who was born on August 11, 1995. He now competes for the South African cricket team as well as the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. The pathway that led him to become a cricket player was full of fortuitous events, and he has characterized himself as an accidental cricketer. After spending his adolescent years playing tennis and squash, Burger eventually made the transition to playing cricket.
By the time he was just fifteen years old, he had already established himself as one of the most accomplished tennis players in the age-group regional tennis championships. He also participated in the national championships of squash when he was just 17 years old. His time spent playing squash, however, was cut short as a result of an extended and ongoing back injury layoff, and as a consequence, he started concentrating on cricket instead.
In the process of making substantial concessions to himself on the decision to pursue a career in tennis, he even acquired aspirations of playing on the ATP Tour. The University of the Witwatersrand awarded him a full scholarship in 2014 so that he may pursue a degree in psychology there. It was at the varsity of the Witwatersrand that he made the decision to give cricket a go, and after his entrance to the varsity, he was allowed to participate in a trial.
Neil Levenson, who was his coach at the institution, provided him with direction and helped him acquire the necessary skill sets. In particular, Neil Levenson worked closely with Burger to correct technical concerns like alignment from the landing foot to the release point. According to Burger, cricket has always been his fallback choice when he has completed his academic pursuits. Following that, he was presented with the option to join the Highveld Lions, a South African team that competes in the continent’s local championship.

He was given his first franchise contract by the Cape Cobras during the 2016–2017 season, and it was a difficult pill to chew. This was particularly true when he was confronted with the option of whether or not to finish his psychology degree or pursue his dreams of playing cricket. Because he had made the painful choice to abandon his further education, he left Johannesburg immediately to relocate to Cape Town. This was because his contract with Cape Cobras stipulated that he should be easily accessible in Cape Town.
During the 2015–16 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup, which took place on February 11, 2016, he made his debut for Gauteng in the first-class competition. In the 2016-17 CSA Provincial T20 Challenge, which took place on February 14, 2016, he made his debut for Gauteng in the Twenty20 format. In the 2016–17 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge, which took place on February 26, 2017, he made his debut for Gauteng in the List A competition. The CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge competition for Gauteng in 2017–18 saw him capture 19 wickets in seven matches, making him the highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
The Cricket South Africa Emerging Squad selected him for inclusion in their roster in July of 2018. The announcement that he will be a member of Gauteng’s team for the 2018 Africa Twenty20 Cup came in September of 2018. During the competition, he was the player who took the most wickets, with eleven dismissals in six matches. Throughout the later parts of the 2018 Mzansi Super League, he became a member of the Cape Town Blitz team as a substitute for Anrich Nortje with an injury.
He was included in the roster of the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants side that will compete in the 2019 Mzansi Super League competition. This announcement was made in September of 2019. The Western Province’s squad was selected for the 2021–22 cricket season in South Africa, and he was given a spot on the team in April of that year. It was a lumbar stress fracture that he suffered, and it prevented him from participating in any cricket-related activity for more than a year, until October 2022.

He was selected to be a member of South Africa’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the series that they were going to play against Pakistan in January 2021. As a result of his selection for South Africa’s Twenty20 International squad to play Pakistan in January 2021, Nandre Burger made his debut in the international arena in all three formats—Twenty20 International, One-Day International, and Test—within thirteen days, against India in December 2023. With statistics of 3/50 and 4/33, he made his debut in the industry.
If the visitors had chosen to bat first after winning the toss, Burger, who had suffered an injury in RR’s last encounter against Gujarat Titans, would have been able to participate in the match against KKR at the Eden Gardens. The injury that Burger sustained prevented him from playing in RR’s home game against the Gujarat Titans (GT), and he has not yet fully recovered from it. In the department of fast bowling, he was replaced by Kuldeep Sen, while Keshav Maharaj, who was making his debut, played as the fourth foreign contender.
In their first four matches, RR were victorious in every single one of them. However, they just lost to GT in Jaipur by a single ball. Already without the services of Nandre Burger, the selection of the squad became a challenging issue for captain Samson, who was also unable to include Buttler and Ashwin in the running for the position. As part of their playing eleven, Rajasthan has featured Tanush Kotian, who hails from Mumbai. The off-spinning all-rounder had a remarkable Ranji Trophy season, contributing to the team’s success by taking wickets and scoring runs in the lower order. The team ultimately won the tournament under his leadership.
