He was born on September 30, 1986, and is a former New Zealand cricketer who played as an opening batsman in all forms of the game, but mostly in limited overs. Martin James Guptill was born in New Zealand. Currently, Guptill holds the record for the greatest individual score in Cricket World Cup matches and the second-highest score in One Day Internationals with a score of 237 not out. He is also the first cricketer from New Zealand to score a double century in a One Day International match, and he is the fifth batsman worldwide to achieve this feat.
Guptill reached his 100th Twenty20 International match in March of 2021. Additionally, he was a member of the New Zealand teams that competed in the finals of the Cricket World Cup in both 2015 and 2019, when they finished in second place. At Eden Park Cricket Stadium, Guptill has hit more than 600 runs in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He is the first and only player in the history of Twenty20 Internationals to score 500 and 600 or more runs at a single location.
Not only does Guptill play for Auckland in the domestic cricket competition, but he also plays club cricket with Suburbs New Lynn. In March of 2006, he made his debut in the first-class cricket competition, and he scored a duck off of four balls in his first innings and a 99 in his second innings. In 2011, Guptill was a member of the Derbyshire County Cricket Club, which meant that he participated in English county cricket for the second half of the season. In the 2016 Indian Premier League, Guptill filled in for the injured Lendl Simmons for Mumbai Indians. In the 2017 Indian Premier League, he substituted for Kings XI Punjab. Both of these teams competed in the Indian Premier League.
In the player auction that took place in December 2018, the Sunrisers Hyderabad made the purchase of his services in preparation for the 2019 Indian Premier League. In July 2019, he was chosen to participate in the first-ever edition of the Euro T20 Slam cricket event, which was played by the Edinburgh Rocks baseball team. However, the event was canceled the month after it was scheduled to take place. Ahead of the Indian Premier League auction in 2020, the Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to release him.

There was a rescheduling of matches in the 2021 Pakistan Super League, and Karachi Kings signed him in April 2021 to participate in those matches. Kandy Falcons, who competed in the 2022 Lanka Premier League, decided to recruit him in July of that year. During the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which was held in Sri Lanka in 2006, Guptill made his debut as a representative of New Zealand. While playing for New Zealand against the West Indies in Auckland on January 10, 2009, he made his debut in a One-Day International (ODI).
Becoming the first New Zealander to make a century on his one-day debut — his total of 122 not out is the best score on debut for New Zealand in an ODI, and it is the second-highest debut score all-time in ODIs. Additionally, he was the first New Zealander to carry the bat through an entire ODI innings from start to finish. During the first test match, which took place in Hamilton in March 2009, he made his debut in the sport of test cricket against India. He scored 14 and 48. The International Cricket Council (ICC) selected him for inclusion in the World One-Day International XI due to his outstanding performance in 2009.
We awarded him the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal in recognition of his outstanding achievement throughout the 2011–12 season. The New Zealand Cricket team recognized him as the Twenty20 Player of the Year for the 2011–12 season. Guptill got back-to-back unbeaten hundreds during the New Zealand 2013 tour of England. He hit 189 not out, which was the greatest score by a New Zealander in a one-day international at the time. He also contributed to the team’s total of 359, which was the fifth-highest team total in the history of one-day internationals at the one-day international level.
In the quarterfinals of the 2015 World Cup, Guptill scored an unbeaten 237 from 163 balls against West Indies at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. This total was higher than his previous highest score in the tournament. As a result of New Zealand’s score of 393 in a World Cup knockout match, he became the first player in the history of the tournament to score a double century in a knockout stage match. After achieving three ducks in the group matches, he finished the event with 547 runs, making him the player with the greatest score for the course of the competition.

The New Zealand Cricket organization presented him with a new contract for the 2018–19 season in May of 2018, making him one of twenty players to get such an honor. The announcement that he will be a part of New Zealand’s team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup came in April of this year. The selection of Guptill to represent New Zealand in the 2021 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup took place in August of 2021. Throughout the Twenty20 World Cup encounter between New Zealand and Scotland on November 3, 2021, Guptill became the second batsman in the history of Twenty20 International cricket to reach 3,000 runs.
In 2023, Guptil was selected to be a member of the Trinbago Knight Riders roster, which competes in the Caribbean Premier League annually. He had his first appearance in the league in 2013. During his time in the league, he has participated in 58 matches for a variety of teams, during which he has scored 1505 runs and maintained a strike rate that is consistently higher than 110. After being left out of the team for the Twenty20 series against India, Guptill decided to free himself from his national contract. This decision brought an end to the experienced batsman’s career on the international international stage.
