This was the case even though the number four post was vacant and had no regular tenant.
He was one of the fifteen players that Bangladesh selected to represent the country in the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. Following the dismissal of the former captain and deputy, Mahmudullah was appointed to the position of vice-captain of Bangladesh on September 20, 2011. He succeeded Tamim Iqbal in this role with immediate effect. As a result of a viral virus, Mahmudullah was unable to attend any of the West Indies’ matches during their visit in October. During November, he was able to heal in time to rejoin the team and play three one-day internationals against Pakistan.
