An English cricketer who played for the England squad at the international level, Harry Frederick Gurney was born on October 25, 1986. He is a former cricketer who played for England. On the 9th of May in 2014, Gurney made his debut in the One Day International competition against Scotland. Following his departure from Leicestershire County Cricket Club after the 2011 season, he went on to play for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, which is a domestic cricket club. He played the majority of his games as a left-arm seamer.
It was during the 2007 season when Gurney made his debut with the main team after having a fair amount of success with Leicestershire’s second side. During his time with the Leeds/Bradford UCCE, Gurney was able to take the wicket of Michael Vaughan, who had previously served as the captain of the England Test team. Gurney has also played for Loughborough Town Cricket Club. Gurney was a standout in Twenty20 cricket in 2009, capturing eight wickets at an average of 23. However, he had a difficult time making an effect in the lengthier version of the game, with an average score of over fifty in the second tier of the County Championship.
While Gurney’s Twenty20 record deteriorated the next year, he showed signs of improvement in the Championship, when he averaged just over 33 runs per game. He took 23 wickets during Leicestershire’s championship season in 2011, even though he was unable to participate in the Finals Day match owing to an injury. Gurney’s performance in Twenty20 matches was especially impressive. On the other hand, he was a member of the Foxes team that competed in the Champions League Twenty20 in India in 2011.
Even though Leicester suffered defeat in both of their matches throughout the tournament, he managed to take five wickets. Following in the footsteps of Stuart Broad and James Taylor, Gurney moved from Leicestershire to Nottinghamshire in the year 2012. Gurney participated in the County Championship Division One for the very first time in his career, even though he was considered to be a one-day specialist.

Gurney established himself as an essential member of the squad, especially in the shorter forms of the game, even though Notts do not have any trophies to show for their efforts. In 2013, Gurney was the bowler who took the most wickets for Nottinghamshire. Gurney was successful in the Yorkshire Bank 40 tournament, which Nottinghamshire ultimately won. In addition to achieving a perfect score in the County Championship, Gurney also performed well in the competition.
The former bowler for Nottinghamshire, Ryan Sidebottom, was used as a point of comparison because both players are left-armed and depend on getting the ball to swing. As a result of Gurney’s strong performance for Nottinghamshire, he was selected for the England team to participate in the limited-overs tour of the West Indies in 2014. Even though he did not participate in the game, he was named to the team for the one-day international match against Scotland. As a result of the weather that impacted the play, he did not take any wickets during his first one-day international.
Even though England ended up losing the Twenty20 International match, he was chosen to make his debut in the encounter against Sri Lanka, where he ended up with statistics of 2/26. He played in all five matches of the ensuing one-day international series against Sri Lanka, collecting nine wickets, including a career-high four wickets and fifty-five runs in the fourth one-day international at Lord’s. Gurney was chosen to be a part of the limited-overs side that would be playing India, even though he was only allowed to play in the fourth match of the series and finished with a score of 1/51.
With a wicket of 1/29, he contributed to England’s victory in the only Twenty20 encounter that took place between the two teams. The limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka allowed Gurney to continue playing and he took one wicket while playing in three one-day internationals. He did not cut the team that competed in the Triangular Series in Australia, which served as a warm-up for the World Cup in 2015. The Melbourne Renegades decided to replace Usman Khan Shinwari with Gurney in November 2018, and they signed him as a substitute.

Quetta Gladiators selected him in the draft for the Pakistan Super League 2019 season. During the 2018 T10 Cricket League, he was also a member of the Northern Warriors team. By participating in the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League, the Kolkata Knight Riders were able to acquire his services in December 2018. He made his debut in the Indian Premier League on April 7, 2019, against Rajasthan Royals. In four overs, he bowled a total of two wickets and twenty-five runs, earning him the title of man of the match.
In July 2019, Gurney was chosen to participate in the first-ever Euro Twenty20 Slam cricket event as a member of the Dublin Chiefs. Nevertheless, there was a cancellation of the competition the next month. The Barbados Tridents announced in July 2020 that he would be a member of their team for the Caribbean Premier League in 2020. In May of 2021, Gurney announced that he would be retiring from cricket due to the shoulder injury he sustained. Along with Stuart Broad, he is a co-owner of a rural hotel that is located on the border between the counties of Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
In June of 2022, the hotel, which was known as Tap and Run, was destroyed by a fire that was created by the electrical drying of hotel linen overnight. The only thing that was left was the shell. The proprietors referred to the reopening of the establishment in 2023 as their “second innings” after it had undergone a comprehensive reconstruction that had cost £1.3 million. Announcing his retirement from cricket at the age of 34, Harry Gurney, a seamer who played for Nottinghamshire and England and became a staple on the Twenty20 franchise circuit, has declared his retirement from the sport.
