Initially established in 1945 under the name Karres Mediaș, the team competed in the Romanian Second League, often known as Liga II. At the same time that its name was changed to CSM Mediaș in 1947, it was elevated to the Divizia A level. Out of a total of sixteen teams, the squad ended in eleventh place. During its second season in Liga I (1948–1949), the team struggled with both financial difficulties and inadequate training facilities. Following the conclusion of the second round, players who were dissatisfied with the club’s training circumstances voiced their complaints to the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) and the press after the match.
The FRF made it possible for the factory known as Zorile Roșii (Red Dawn) to alter the name of the club to Zorile Roșii Mediaș and take control of the club. There was a merger between the squad and Vitrometan Mediaș later on in that season. A further change in ownership occurred during the second part of the season when Ateliere Gaz Metan took control of the organization and changed its name to Gaz Metan Mediaș before the end of the season. During that season, the squad was demoted to the Liga II division.
