Fazalhaq was selected to be a member of Afghanistan’s One-Day International (ODI) team for the series that they were going to play against Pakistan in July of 2021. In January 2022, he was selected to be a member of Afghanistan’s one-day international team for their series in Qatar against the Netherlands. On January 25, 2022, he won his first One-Day International match against the Netherlands. One of the teams who participated in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League competition was Sunrisers Hyderabad, which purchased him in February of that year.
The Colombo Stars decided to recruit him in July 2022 so that he may participate in the third season of the Lanka Premier League. Following an inquiry by Cricket Australia into a behavioral event involving Fazal Haq that took place on December 15, 2022, and contained allegations of harassment of female cricketing personnel, the Sydney Thunder terminated his contract on December 23, 2022. The incident took place following the conclusion of the investigation.
For the T20 Blast group stages this season, Nottinghamshire has recruited left-arm seamers Ben Lister of New Zealand and Fazalhaq Farooqi of Afghanistan in the hopes that they would be able to recreate the success that Shaheen Shah Afridi had for them during the summer of last year. Even though Lister has gained thirteen limited-overs caps for his nation, it is very doubtful that he will be included in their World Cup ambitions. Instead, he will be joining Notts for the first eight games of the group stages of the Blast this season before Farooqi takes his place.
Farooqi will make his debut in county cricket for the first time in his career, after the Twenty20 World Cup, when he will lead Afghanistan’s seam attack. However, this would only be possible if the Afghanistan Cricket Board issued a certificate stating that there were no objections to his participation. During the previous season, Shaheen played for Notts and collected 22 wickets. During one of those matches, he took four wickets in a single over, which was a loss against Birmingham Bears.

Nevertheless, he will not be able to participate in the Blast this summer since he will be competing in the Twenty20 World Cup, where he will be the captain of Pakistan. As a result, Notts will have to look at two other options. Because Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq have “demonstrated a strong desire to represent their country again,” the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has selected Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq as members of the Twenty20 squad that will be competing against the United Arab Emirates in a three-match series in Qatar.
“Fast bowlers Fazal Haq Farooqi and Naveen Ul Haq, two of the three players who recently faced penalties for their decision to opt out of the yearly central contracts, have also been included in the team. Other players who received sanctions are Naveen Ul Haq and Fazal Haq Farooqi. They have addressed the ACB and expressed a great desire to serve their nation once again. Additionally, they have asked that the committee that was assigned to them in the past revisit its judgment about the disciplinary measures that were imposed against them to rethink its decision.
There is a possibility that Afghanistan stars Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman will not be able to take part in the forthcoming 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). During the following two years, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) decided to implement a disciplinary action that would prevent the aforementioned individuals from receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for participation in franchise-based competitions that are located outside of Afghanistan.
