Dwaine Pretorius, who was born on March 29, 1989, is a former South African international cricketer who presently competes in a variety of Twenty20 leagues throughout the world. Additionally, he is a bowling all-rounder for North West in domestic cricket. On January 9, 2023, he announced that he would be retiring from playing cricket internationally. The North West cricket team selected him to be a part of their squad for the 2015 Africa Twenty20 Cup.
The Cape Town Knight Riders selected him to be a member of their team for the first season of the Twenty20 Global League in August of 2017. On the other hand, Cricket South Africa first decided to postpone the event till November 2018, however after that, they decided to cancel it shortly after. His inclusion in the Jozi Stars team roster for the first Mzansi Super League Twenty20 competition took place in October of 2018.
In April 2019, Northamptonshire signed Pretorius to participate in the 2019 Twenty20 Blast event, which will take place in England. In July 2019, he was chosen to participate in the first-ever edition of the Euro T20 Slam cricket event, which was played by the Edinburgh Rocks baseball team. However, the event was canceled the month after it was scheduled to take place. He was included in the roster of the Paarl Rocks club that will compete in the 2019 Mzansi Super League competition. This announcement was made in September of 2019.
Peshawar Zalmi, a franchise side in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), selected him as their silver Category choice in the 2020 PSL draft. This selection took place in December of 2019. The North West cricket team announced his inclusion in their squad in April 2021, well in advance of the 2021–22 cricket season in South Africa. In February of 2022, the Chennai Super Kings participated in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League season and purchased him based on his performance.

The Colombo Stars decided to recruit him in July 2022 so that he may participate in the third season of the Lanka Premier League. In a One-Day International match that took place on September 25, 2016, Pretorius made his debut for South Africa against Ireland. He took one wicket for 19 with the ball and was not needed to bat in South Africa’s victory by 206 runs. After Chris Morris had a knee injury in September 2016, Pretorius was considered for inclusion in South Africa’s One Day International team for the series they were playing against Australia.
During the third one-day international match against Australia, Pretorius made his second appearance for his country. In the process of chasing down 371 runs and winning the match against Australia, he took 0–42 off of six overs and struck 15 off of 20 balls. As part of his participation in the fourth one-day international match against Australia, Pretorius was able to take the wicket of George Bailey and produce stats of 1–33 from seven overs. He didn’t need to bat during South Africa’s innings, and he was not chosen to participate in the fifth one-day international, for which South Africa defeated Australia by a score of 5–0.
The addition of Pretorius to South Africa’s Test team for their series against Australia took place in November of 2016. He came in to take the place of Dale Steyn, who had sustained a shoulder injury during the first test. He was selected to be a member of South Africa’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the series that they were playing against England in June of 2017. On June 21, 2017, he made his debut for South Africa in a Twenty20 International match against England. The announcement that he will be a part of South Africa’s team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup came in April of this year.
It was announced in December 2019 that he would be a part of South Africa’s Test team heading into their series against England. It was on December 26, 2019, that he made his debut for South Africa in a test match game against England. Within March in the year 2020, Cricket South Africa presented him with a national contract in preparation for the 2020–21 season. As part of the Twenty20 International series against Pakistan, Pretorius achieved his first five-wicket haul in Twenty20 Internationals on February 13, 2021, with a score of 5/17.

In a Twenty20 International match, they were also the greatest numbers ever recorded by a bowler for South Africa. The selection of Pretorius to South Africa’s team for the 2021 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup took place in September of the same year. In a post that he posted on Instagram on Sunday, November 26, former South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius expressed his gratitude to Chennai Super Kings for their support during his adventure in the Indian Premier League. He also hinted that the five-time winners had discharged him on the last day of the season.
Although Pretorius played for CSK for two seasons, his second season came to an abrupt end in 2023.CSK purchased Dwaine Pretorius for a price of Rs 50 lakh at the auction for the Indian Premier League 2022, and MS Dhoni’s team decided to keep him for the 2023 season of the tournament. During his seven matches, the former South African pace-bowling all-rounder finished with six wickets while scoring 44 runs. He also played seven matches. Following his retirement from international cricket earlier this year, Pretorius, who is 34 years old, went on to become a T20 globetrotter.
