During May in the year 2023, he was selected to be a member of the West Indies One Day International (ODI) team for the series that was played against India. On the first one-day international of the series, which took place on June 4, 2023, he made his debut in the One-Day International format. The Birmingham Bears have secured the services of Dominic Drakes, a left-arm for the West Indies, on a short-term deal that will continue until the conclusion of the Vitality Blast.
Drakes, whose father Vasbert played for Warwickshire in the 2000s, will take Hasan Ali’s position as one of the Bears’ two foreign players. Hasan Ali, a Pakistani seamer, will be leaving for international duty this weekend, and Drakes will follow in his footsteps. Having replaced Hassan Ali as the Bears’ second foreign player, the left-arm will be available for Sunday’s home match against Durham at 2:30 p.m., as well as the quarter-final and Finals Day if they qualify.
Ali, who was chosen to be a member of the Pakistan Test team that will go to Sri Lanka on July 9th, is scheduled to depart for Karachi on Sunday. Because Dominic Drakes’ father, Vaspert, played for Warwickshire in both First Class and List A cricket in 2001, the name Drakes will be well-known to supporters of the Bears. Hasan Ali’s abroad trip has been cut short since he was called up for Pakistan’s test series against Sri Lanka. Drakes will take over for Hasan Ali in this regard.
It is still possible for Ali to play in the away game against Notts Outlaws on Friday. Drakes will take over for the home game against Durham on Sunday, as well as the quarterfinals and Finals Day, if the Bears advance for the national championship. Gavin Larson, the performance director for the Bears, said that Dominic enjoys playing on the big stage and is confident in his ability to take the ball under high-pressure situations and on power plays.
