The selection of Madushanka to Sri Lanka’s Test team was announced once again in April 2021, this time for the series that they were going to play against Bangladesh. It was announced in April 2022 that he would be a part of Sri Lanka’s Test team traveling to Bangladesh to compete in a series. Under the auspices of Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka, he made his debut in the List A competition on June 8, 2022, playing for Sri Lanka A against Australia A.
In the latter part of the same month, he was included in Sri Lanka’s Test team, which was also for their series against Australia that was played at home. The wicket of Rohit Sharma was Madushanka’s first one-day international game. On July 24, 2023, he played his first test match, which was against Pakistan. During the World Cup 2023, Madushanka grabbed a total of 21 wickets over nine matches at an average of 25.00. He also recorded his first one-day international five-wicket haul, which was against India on November 2, 2023, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The Indian Premier League 2024 would not include Dilshan Madushanka for the Mumbai Indians. It was earlier this month that the fast bowler from Sri Lanka suffered a hamstring injury while on tour in Bangladesh. As a result, he will not be able to participate in the Twenty20 event as a whole. They have decided to replace him with Kwena Maphaka, a fast bowler from South Africa who is seventeen years old.
As a powerplay specialist, Madushanka was a candidate for inclusion in the first eleven, and Mumbai had made a significant investment in him, amounting to around USD 554,000 (or INR 4.6 crore). Throughout the One-Day International World Cup in 2023, Madushanka showed his ability to swing the new ball by achieving the third-highest wicket-taking total (21) in the tournament, behind Mohammed Shami (24) and Adam Zampa (23).
Both Kagiso Rabada and Maphaka are students at the same school in Johannesburg, which is St. Stithians. Maphaka is now in his last year of schooling. Originally, he was going to spend his summer vacation in Mumbai and then go back to his own country. However, his plans have altered, and he will now spend the months of March, April, and May with a squad that includes fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and coaches like Lasith Malinga.
With his collection of 21 wickets from six one-day internationals at an average of 9.71 and an economy rate of 3.81, Maphaka was one of the most eye-catching performers in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup. He was responsible for South Africa’s advancement to the semi-finals. At the youth World Cup, no one has ever taken more wickets in a single tournament than anybody else. According to the members of the squad, the left-arm seamer bowls at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour and is well-known for his inswing, which places him in the same category as Madushanka.
