Madagamagamage Dasun Shanaka is a professional cricketer from Sri Lanka. He was born on September 9, 1991, and he has previously served as the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team for limited-over situations. A right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler, Shanaka is an all-rounder who also bowls with her right arm. During the year 2019, he served as the captain of the Twenty20 International (T20I) team that competed against Pakistan. During his tenure as captain, Sri Lanka won the series against Pakistan by a score of 3–0.
Shanaka took over as Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 International captain in February 2021, just before the team embarked on their tour to the West Indies. Lasith Malinga had previously held this position. Shanaka was also given the responsibility of leading Sri Lanka’s One Day International (ODI) team for the series that they were playing against India in July of 2021. In 2022, Shanaka led Sri Lanka to victory in the Asia Cup, which was the sixth championship that the squad had won. In March of 2018, he was selected as the vice-captain of the team that Galle would be competing in for the Super Four Provincial Tournament in 2017–2018.
In the month that followed, he was also given the responsibility of serving as the vice-captain of the Galle team that would compete in the 2018 Super Provincial One Day Tournament. After participating in the players’ draft for the first-ever Global T20 Canada event, he was chosen to play for the Montreal Tigers on June 3, 2018. His appointment as captain of the SLC Greys squad for the 2021 SLC Invitational T20 League event took place in August of the same year. In addition to becoming the player of the series, Shanaka set the record for most runs scored in the competition. His selection to play for the Dambulla Giants in the 2021 Lanka Premier League came about as a result of the players’ draft that took place in November of that year. Shanka and Thisara Perera put up a blazing seventh-wicket partnership of 109 runs, which helped Sri Lanka exceed the 300-run mark on a day when it was raining.
