Daryl Joseph Mitchell is a New Zealand cricketer who was born on May 20, 1991. He is a member of the New Zealand national team and represents Canterbury in domestic cricket. Mitchell plays all forms of the game for the New Zealand national team. Born in New Zealand, he is the son of John Mitchell, a former player and coach in the sport of rugby union. Mitchell eventually made his debut on the international stage in 2019, after having participated in more than 200 matches inside the local cricket system of New Zealand.
Mitchell has acquired a reputation for being able to play any position that is handed to him at the international level. He is noted for his versatility and has gone on to solidify this reputation. It was notably notable for his ability to finish games, which contributed to his reputation as a bankable finisher. He did not disappoint in this regard. Before his late debut in international cricket, he went on to become one of the most influential players in Super Smash. He was also famous for being the man who hit the most sixes in Super Smash.
His namesake, Daryl Mitchell, is also a right-handed batting all-rounder who hails from England and has mostly enjoyed playing for Worcestershire at the county level. He is said to have spent five of his formative years in Perth, which is located in Australia. It is also said that he played cricket with some of the most famous Australian cricketers, including Andrew Tye, Marcus Harris, and Marcus Stoinis, particularly while he was in the school and grade ranks in Western Australia. When Scarborough won its first-grade championship in March 2009, Daryl Mitchell, Marcus Stoinis, and Justin Langer were all sitting together as teammates in the changerooms at the WACA. They were enjoying their accomplishment.
Mitchell played for the Western Australia Under 19s, Under 23s, and the Australian Centre of Excellence throughout his three years with Hale in school cricket and two years with Scarborough in club cricket. Additionally, Mitchell participated in a Futures League Twenty20 tournament while playing for the Australian Centre of Excellence. He obtained a contract from Northern Districts, which he eagerly accepted, and since then he has been a regular on the New Zealand domestic circuit. This came about as a result of his remarkable performance in tournaments held at the third-grade level in Australia.
In 2006, while he was a teenager, he and his family relocated to Western Australia. This was because his father, John, acquired the role of head coach of the Western Force rugby union team. The relocation of Mitchell from the Northern Districts to Canterbury took place in June 2020. Mitchell achieved his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket in November 2020, during the fourth round of the 2020–21 Plunket Shield season. He collected five wickets and 44 runs against Otago.
This was Mitchell’s first central contract, which he received with New Zealand Cricket in May of 2021, just before to the 2021–22 season. In addition, Middlesex signed him for the later portion of the 2021 Twenty20 Blast competition within the same month. The Rajasthan Royals were the ones who purchased him during the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League competition, which took place in February of that year. During the 2022–23 season, Lancashire announced in January 2023 that Mitchell will be participating in both the County Championship and the Twenty20 Blast for the county.

Even though it was a position he had never held previously, he ended up opening the batting with Martin Guptill for the rest of the 2021 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup. Before the 2021 ICC Twenty20 World Cup, he had participated in 116 Twenty20 matches, however, he had never started the batting in any of those matches. At the time, Gary Stead was serving as the head coach of the Twenty20 World Cup, and he allowed him to begin the innings during the 2021 tournament.
During the time leading up to the Twenty20 World Cup in 2021, the coaching staff and administration of New Zealand wanted to assign Mitchell, along with Jimmy Neesham, the primary responsibility of completing the middle order. Nevertheless, the plans had to be altered later on as a result of the late arrival of first-choice opener Tim Seifert. Seifert joined the bio-secure bubble pity late because he was involved with the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise during the 2021 Indian Premier League.
