The Indipalage of Kariyawasam” Charith Asalanka is a professional cricketer from Sri Lanka who was born on June 29, 1997. He is a member of the national squad and plays all three forms of the game. In addition, he is the vice-captain of the national team in international Twenty20 Internationals and One-Day Internationals. A batsman who plays left-handed, Asalanka made his debut for Sri Lanka in the international competition in June of 2021. In 2013, Asalanka went on a trip to England, where they played a three-day match against an English under-17 side in Loughborough. In that match, they opened the batting and scored the highest score in each inning, with 92 and 31 respectively.
It was during the 2014–15 school year that he started batting for his school, Richmond College, Galle, which ultimately led them to the final of the twenty-20 tournament among the schools. In the 2014–2015 season, he served as captain of the national under-19 squad, which competed against under-19 teams from both Australia and Bangladesh. During the five-match limited-overs series that Sri Lanka played against Bangladesh under-19, he was Sri Lanka’s best scorer, with 225 runs at an average of 45.00, and he was also the second-highest wicket-taker, with eight wickets at 21.00.
As a result of his four wickets for 36 and 63, he was the most important factor in Sri Lanka’s win in the opening match. Not only did he become the eighth player in history to win the Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year title twice, but he also won the accolade in both 2015 and 2016. Additionally, in 2016, he made history by being the first player in the history of Lovers Quarrel to score a hundred in both the two-day and one-day bouts. It was in April 2015 when Asalanka made his debut in the first-class competition. The match was a contest to determine who would be the winner of the Premier Trophy for the next season.
It was his side, Galle, that did the batting first, and they were all out for 31. In response, the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club made a total of 215. Within the second over of their second innings, Galle suffered their first wicket loss. However, Asalanka, who was batting at number three, struck 114 runs off 123 balls, and Galle scored a total of 295 runs. The Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club needed 112 runs to win, but Asalanka took 4 wickets for 34 runs (Malith de Silva, who was also making his first-class debut, grabbed 6 wickets for 46 runs) to dismiss them for 107 runs, and Galle won by four runs.

At the beginning of March 2018, he made his debut in the Twenty20 tournament for Sinhalese Sports Club, which was part of the 2017–18 SLC Twenty20 Tournament. The announcement that he will be a member of Kandy’s team for the 2018 Super Provincial One Day Tournament came in April of 2018. The announcement that he will be a part of Kandy’s team for the 2018 SLC T20 League came in August of 2018. Because he had 10 wickets in six matches, he was the most successful wicket-taker for Kandy during the tournament.
The Jaffna Stallions selected him in the draft at the beginning of the first season of the Lanka Premier League, which took place in October 2020. As captain of Sinhalese Sports Club, he led the team to victory in the SLC Twenty20 Tournament in March 2021. This victory was the first time the Sinhalese Sports Club had accomplished this feat since 2005. Asalanka achieved a remarkable undefeated century against Police Sports Club on March 24, 2021, during the Major Clubs Limited throughout the Tournament. He scored 178 runs from 145 balls, including 16 boundaries and 5 sixes throughout the match.
Sinhalese Sports Club won the match by a margin of 31 runs, scoring 339 runs in the process. In the Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament, which took place once again on April 1, 2021, Asalanka made a century that won the match against Colts Cricket Club. He did so by scoring 101 runs without being out from 89 balls while pursuing 278 runs. Avishka Fernando was an effective partner for Asalanka. With 68 balls remaining, Sinhalese Sports Club became victorious by a score of 8 wickets. He was given the position of vice-captain of the SLC Greys squad for the 2021 SLC Invitational T20 League event, which was announced in August of the same year.
His selection to play for the Kandy Warriors in the 2021 Lanka Premier League came about as a result of the players’ draft that took place in November of that year. While playing for the club Colombo Asalanka in the fourth match of the National Super League, he achieved the thirteenth half-century in the List A competition against the team Dambulla. He did this while the side was chasing 143 runs. As a bowler, he was also responsible for two wickets. In the end, the team from Colombo emerged victorious by a score of seven wickets. The Colombo Stardecidedon to recruit him in July 2022 so that he may participate in the third season of the Lanka Premier League.

During the two-match series that took place between Sri Lanka under-19 and Pakistan under-19 in October 2015, Asalanka led Sri Lanka under-19 to victory. He scored 334 runs at an average of 167.00, including a double-century and a century. Additionally, he led Sri Lanka to victory in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup played in 2016. Not only was he included in Sri Lanka’s Test team for their series against England in November 2018, but he did not participate in any of the matches.
The announcement that he would be leading the Sri Lankan squad at the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup came in December of the same year. The announcement that he will be leading Sri Lanka’s team to victory at the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh came in November of this year. In the latter part of the same month, he was given the responsibility of leading Sri Lanka’s cricket team in the competition that would take place at the 2019 South Asian Games.
