George Henry Dockrell is a cricketer from Ireland who was born on July 22, 1992. He is now a member of the Irish national cricket team and trained at the Leinster Cricket Club in Dublin during his cricketing career. Dockrell is a right-handed batter and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He is known for his ability to excel in all aspects of the game. In the year 2010, he graduated from Gonzaga College in Dublin as a member of the class. Cricket Ireland decided to grant a central contract to him in December 2018, making him one of nineteen players to get such a deal for the 2019 season.
He was one of nineteen players who were given a central contract by Cricket Ireland in January 2020. This was the first year that all contracts were given out on a full-time basis, and it was also the first year that all contracts were given out. From the U-13 level forward, Dockrell has been a member of the Irish national team. Additionally, Dockrell was a member of the victorious side for the 2010 Under-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier for the year 2009. The victory of Ireland in this competition made it possible for the country to compete in the U-19 Cricket World Cup in 2010. It was during this event that Dockrell made his debut in the Youth One Day International competition against South Africa’s U-19 team.
During the event, Dockrell participated in three further Youth One Day Internationals. Dockrell has been garnering notice from Somerset County Cricket Club ever since he was 15 years old. On July 18, 2010, it was reported that Somerset had extended an offer of employment to Dockrell for two years. Dockrell said, “My ambitions are to continue making progress with Ireland, but also to get into a county first team by developing all aspects of my game.” Dockrell was speaking about his goals before he made his statement.
Dockrell’s lack of availability for Somerset at the close of the 2010 season was a result of his commitment to Ireland’s international team during the Intercontinental Cup. A shoulder dislocation occurred to Dockrell when he was competing in the event. Due to the recuperation process, he was unable to enjoy a significant portion of his first season with Somerset. Although he only played in one match for the County Championship, he was more active in limited overs games, including the semi-final of the Twenty20 Cup and the Champions Trophy. His appearances in limited-overs games were more regular.

When England was scheduled to play in Dubai in January 2012, a squad comprised of some of the greatest players from Associate and Affiliate clubs was assembled to compete against England. England’s preparation for a series against Pakistan that would take place later that month included playing a match that lasted for three days. Among the twelve players selected for the team, Dockrell was one of four players from Ireland. After the season, fellow left-arm spinner Murali Kartik departing from Somerset provided Dockrell with the chance to establish himself as a member of the squad.
Dockrell got six wickets and twenty-seven runs in the second innings of Somerset’s first match of the 2012 County Championship against Middlesex. This performance contributed to his team’s win by six wickets vs Middlesex. Dockrell finished the 2018 Inter-Provincial Cup as the player with the most total number of runs scored and wickets taken. He finished with 231 runs and 10 wickets throughout the competition. He was honored with the title of Men’s Inter-Provincial Player of the Year at the annual Cricket Ireland Awards, which took place in November 2018.
The two most experienced spinners for Ireland, Kyle McCallan and Regan West had both retired at the beginning of 2010, and Regan West had suffered an injury. Dockrell and Gary Kidd, both talented young spinners, were selected to compete in the 2010 Quadrangular Twenty20 Series and the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, both of which were held in Sri Lanka. During the Quadrangular Twenty20 Series that took place in Sri Lanka in 2010, Dockrell made his first performance for the senior Ireland side.
The Twenty20 match that Dockrell played for the first time was also his first Twenty20 International match since it was against Afghanistan. Dockrell collected two wickets and eleven runs throughout the match, which Ireland won by a score of five wickets. The second Twenty20 match that Dockrell played was against Sri Lanka A, and he achieved a solitary wicket in that match. The selection of Dockrell to the Ireland team for the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 was based on his performance in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, which he won with flying colors.

Taking four wickets against the West Indies and unsettling Kevin Pietersen in a tight bowling performance during the abandoned match against England, he was the youngest player in the competition and had a starring role in the match. “Taking three wickets against West Indies gave me a huge boost in confidence,” Dockrell remarked when reflecting on his performance. Before that game, I was anxious, but by the time we arrived to play England, I had achieved a far greater level of composure. The way the tournament went for me in general was something that I was very pleased with.
Because he was taking a Biology test for the Leaving Certificate, he was unable to accompany Ireland to their One-Day International match against Australia on June 17, 2010. Dockrell was selected to lead the Ireland Wolves team in their red-ball matches against Bangladesh in February of 2021. He was given the responsibility of captaining the team. On the other hand, it was confirmed the day before the team left for Bangladesh that Dockrell had turned down the opportunity to participate in the trip.
On the same day, Ruhan Pretorius was elevated to the position of captain, and Harry Tector was officially appointed to the position. Dockrell was included in Ireland’s tentative team for the 2021 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup, which was announced in September of the same year. The Irish cricket team has selected Dockrell to be a part of their Test squad for their upcoming trips to Bangladesh in March 2023 and Sri Lanka in April 2023. The Twenty20 International and One-Day International teams for the trips were also named to include him.
