However, the event was canceled the month after it was scheduled to take place.

In February 2021, Delany was selected to be a member of the Ireland Wolves team that would go to Bangladesh. Delany was included in Ireland’s tentative team for the 2021 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup, which was announced in September of the same year. The announcement that he will be a part of Ireland’s team for the 2024 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup came in May of that year. During the continuing Twenty20 World Cup 2024 match between Ireland and Canada at the Nassau International County Stadium in New York, Ireland leg-spinner Gareth Delany struck with the first delivery of his stint.
With a casual one-handed grab, the 27-year-old was able to get rid of Dilpreet Bajwa for seven runs off of nine deliveries. Paul Stirling introduced spin during the ninth over of the innings, which resulted in the removal of the other player. As Delany snatched the ball with one hand, Bajwa attempted to work a little shorter delivery on the inside, but he was only able to get a leading edge on the ball. In the previous over, the right-handed hitter had hit a stunning boundary off of Barry McCarthy, and it seemed like he was in excellent touch with the ball.
During Ireland’s first match versus India in New York, the cricketer who was born in Dublin did not roll his arms, which is a notable omission. Throughout their match against Rohit Sharma and his team, the Irishmen were defeated by a significant margin, falling behind by eight wickets and scoring just 96 runs. Despite this, the 27-year-old player led his team in scoring with 26 runs off of 14 deliveries, bringing them closer to 100 runs at a time when Ireland was struggling to find themselves at 50-8.
Although Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant both had noteworthy innings, the total was not even close to being sufficient to meet the requirements. Before he had to leave the field owing to an elbow injury, the Indian skipper hit 52 off of 37 balls. Rishabh Pant was the one who waited till the very end and played an incredible reverse ramp to ensure that he would secure the victory. Following their encounter against Canada, Ireland will next play the United States of America and Pakistan on June 14th and 16th, at the appropriate times.

Paul Stirling brought in a spin during the ninth inning, which resulted in the removal of the pitcher. Bajwa made an effort to play a delivery that was somewhat shorter to the onside, but he ended up with a leading edge, which Delany was able to catch with one hand. It seemed as if the right-handed batter was in fantastic form, as he had struck a superb boundary off of Barry McCarthy in the previous over. During Ireland’s first match in New York versus India, the cricketer who was born in Dublin did not do any bowling. Because they only managed to score 96 runs, Ireland was defeated by Rohit Sharma’s squad by a significant margin of eight wickets.
Afghan bowling talent was on full display as Afghanistan defeated Ireland by a score of 10 runs in the second Twenty20 international of their three-match series, which took place on Friday in Sharjah. Afghanistan’s skipper, Rashid Khan, was the driving force behind this team’s success. Afghanistan has now tied the series 1-1 with this victory, and Ireland’s complete multi-format trip versus Afghanistan is getting closer and closer to its inevitable end. Even though Gareth Delany played a courageous innings in which he scored 39 runs off of 18 balls, Ireland was unable to achieve the score of 18 runs that was necessary in the last over to attain victory.
