In his first game, he won the player of the match award after scoring a half-century and taking five wickets without losing a single wicket.De Grandhomme earned his maiden century in a test match on December 2, 2017, while he was playing against the West Indies, who were on tour. With 71 balls, the New Zealand batsman achieved the second-fastest century in the history of Tests.[16] [16] Following the passing of his father in Zimbabwe, he decided to withdraw from the trip before the one-day international matches against the West Indies.
The New York Strikers have announced that they will be including former West Indies hitter Narsingh Deonarine and former New Zealand player Colin De Grandhomme on their lineup for the Legends Cricket Trophy. Pallakele Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka is going to be the location of this top-tier cricket competition, which will take place from March 8 to March 19. This will be the Strikers’ first time competing in this competition.
The New Zealand Cricket Organization presented de Grandhomme with a new contract for the 2018–19 season in May of 2018, making him one of twenty players to get such an honor. The announcement that he will be a part of New Zealand’s team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup came in April of this year. On August 31, 2022, he announced that he would be walking away from international cricket. Colin de Grandhomme, a former all-rounder for New Zealand, made his debut in the Indian Premier League circuit with the Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2017 season.
He was a replacement for Andre Russell. Colin de Grandhomme has now explained the real reason why his second IPL outfit, Royal Challengers Bangalore, has not been able to win the coveted trophy despite reaching the finals on three separate occasions. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recruited Colin de Grandhomme two seasons after he made his debut with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The South Indian organization would pay 2.2 crores of Indian rupees for him after engaging in a protracted bidding war with other franchises, which resulted in his initial price of 75 lakhs being increased to crores.
Because de Grandhomme did not have a good outing during his first season in the Indian Premier League, Bangalore took an extremely peculiar move. During the season, the all-rounder participated in 12 matches, scored 126 runs with a strike rate of less than 140, peaking at 36, and averaging barely 15 runs per game. After arriving only in time to serve as a substitute for Russell, the former New Zealand international player was not retained by the team, and he made his debut with Royal Challengers Bangalore the next year.

Colin de Grandhomme had a better performance with the bat during the tenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), as he scored 131 runs and had a strike rate of more than 150. He only played nine games during this season. However, his performance with the ball was incredibly bad, and he only managed to gather two wickets. This further degraded him since he had a rookie season in which he had four wickets to his record.
RCB was not in the least bit concerned about this, as they decided to keep him for the 2019 season, even though his performance and game time had significantly decreased. It turned out that de Grandhomme’s last season in the wealthiest cricketing league in the world was the one in which he played just four games, scored 46 runs, and did not capture any wickets. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise is notorious for purchasing players who do not contribute to the stability of their squad, and even though he was not an effective acquisition in the first place, they continue to do so.
