He was a significant player in the squad that won the Twenty20 World Cup in 2016, and his most unforgettable innings was when he helped the team win the tournament.
To assist the West Indies win their second Twenty20 global championship, Brathwaite struck the six that proved to be the winning goal. On the 11th of October 2011, Brathwaite made his debut for the West Indies in a Twenty20 International match against Bangladesh. Seven days later, he made his debut in the same series by participating in the One Day International League. The second test match between the West Indies and Australia took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on December 26, 2015, and he made his debut for the West Indies in the match.
In the last over of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 final against England, Brathwaite smashed four straight sixes in the first four balls of the over. Throughout his career, Brathwaite has over 260 Twenty20 matches and has scored close to 2,500 runs. He has also played in the United Kingdom, where he has played for the Birmingham Bears and Kent in the Twenty20 Blast in 2021 and 2018, respectively. To convince Brathwaite to join Bridgwater as an overseas player, his old Bears teammate Jake Lintott, who now plays for Bridgwater, was the one who did the convincing.
Former South African bowler Alfonso Thomas spent a couple of seasons with the club in 2017, and several Somerset players, notably batter Will Smeed, have come through their ranks. This is not the first time that the club has had a celebrity name in their midst; indeed, it is not the first time that they have had a star name in their midst. There are a few matches that Brathwaite can participate in for Bridgwater, and he is also scheduled to return later in the season, with the expectation that he will increase the number of times he has played to more than ten.
