“Scott” Christopher Kuggeleijn is a successful cricket player who represents New Zealand internationally. He was born on January 3, 1992. For Northern Districts, he is a member of the first-class cricket team. Kuggeleijn was the player that captured the most wickets in the Ford Trophy competition during the 2016–2017 season. He did it by taking seventeen wickets in nine matches. Northern Districts offered him a contract for the 2018–19 season in June of 2018, and he accepted it.
As a substitute for Lungi Ngidi, who was injured while playing for South Africa in the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL), he was called up to the Chennai Super Kings in March of this year. It was on April 27, 2021, that the Royal Challengers Bangalore decided to recruit him as a substitute for Kane Richardson to participate in the 2021 Indian Premier League. It was announced in April 2017 that he would be a part of the One-Day International (ODI) team that New Zealand would use for the 2017 Ireland Tri-Nation Series.
On May 14, 2017, he made his only one-day international debut for New Zealand against Ireland. During the encounter, he not only scored 11 runs but also won his maiden one-day international wicket by dismissing William Porterfield. In January 2019, he was selected to be a member of the Twenty20 International (T20I) team for New Zealand’s one-time Twenty20 International match held against Sri Lanka. He made his debut in the Twenty20 International on January 11, 2019, when he played against Sri Lanka.
In February of 2023, he was selected to be a member of the New Zealand Test team that would be competing against England in a series. His first appearance in a test match was on February 16, 2023, when he played for New Zealand against England. Kuggeleijn was put on trial for rape in 2016, and then again in 2017, after the conclusion of the first trial, which was a hung jury. He did not get a conviction. In 2017, just after the conclusion of the second trial, Kuggeleijn came dangerously close to being picked for the national squad.

President and Chief Executive Officer of New Zealand Cricket, David White, said that the organization “respected the court process and were not in the business of relitigating past events.” According to what he stated, “that would be outrageously unfair to all of the parties involved.” When it comes to situations of such a grave nature, the court would be the most suitable venue for making a decision. The stance that New Zealand Cricket adopted was subject to criticism from both the general public and the media.
“I’m just trying to focus on my cricket,” Kuggeleijn said during a rare news appearance in December 2020, explaining that he was avoiding talking about the matter. In the next test match against Australia, which will take place in Christchurch, fast bowler Ben Sears will make his debut. However, New Zealand is once again contemplating whether to choose a fourth seamer in the form of Scott Kuggeleijn or a specialist spinner in the form of Mitchell Santer. The choice will be decided at the toss.
Sears, who is 26 years old, replaced Will O’Rourke in the lineup after the latter sustained a hamstring injury while playing in Wellington. In the past, he has participated in thirteen Twenty20 Internationals, and his speed has been impressive during the most recent matches against Australia. Out of 19 matches played in first-class cricket, he has taken 58 wickets at a strike rate of 27.03. Tim Southee, the captain of the New Zealand team, expressed his excitement of seeing what Sears might do. A hundredth test match for Southee, who will be playing in Christchurch.
During the two-test series against Australia that will begin at the end of this month, the Black Caps have decided to bring back Scott Kuggeleijn. Daryl Mitchell has returned to take up his position in the middle order, while Kuggeleijn has taken over for Kyle Jamieson, who was carrying an injury. The rest of the 14-player team has remained the same. Mitchell withdrew from the second test match against South Africa this week due to a foot ailment, and he would continue to sit out the three-match Twenty20 series against Australia that would take place the following week.

The last time Kuggeleijn was a member of the test team was when he made his debut against England at Bay Oval a year ago. He was unproductive in the match, which resulted in a crushing loss. A selector named Sam Wells said that the 32-year-old player’s performances for New Zealand A versus Australia A the previous year earned his inclusion in the team. The player was the top wicket-taker in the first four rounds of the Plunket Shield’s competition.
The first four-day encounter between New Zealand A and Australia A was a dramatic reversal for New Zealand A, as they defeated Australia A by 225 runs. As the host team was bowled out for 127 minutes after lunch on the last day of the tournament, Scott Kuggeleijn and Sean Solia accomplished outstanding performances in all aspects of the game. In the match, Kuggeleijn concluded with a career-high nine wickets for 113 and an undefeated century. Solia, on the other hand, took five wickets, including three wickets for fifteen on the final day, in addition to recording 91 runs.
This year’s Twenty20 lineup for New Zealand includes a player with a very recent name. In the match that took place at home against Sri Lanka a month ago, Scott Kuggeleijn took a wicket and scored 35 runs. However, in the two matches that he has played against India so far, he has not taken a wicket. However, this is not the reason why the audience stops applauding and instead begins jeering when his name is revealed together with the names of the other members of his team before a match.
