Even though Howell did not participate in the game, Hampshire was victorious in the Friends Provident Twenty20 in 2010. Under normal circumstances, Hampshire and Somerset, who finished in second place, would have been eligible to participate in the Champions League Twenty20 in 2010. Despite this, Hampshire was unable to participate in the event since it coincided with the conclusion of the English domestic season. Hampshire, on the other hand, was given a spot in the Caribbean Twenty20 in 2011, with Somerset.
It was during this competition that Howell made his debut in the Twenty20 format, namely during Hampshire’s group match against Canada and Hampshire. During the 2011 English domestic season, Howell became a regular member of Hampshire CCCC limited-overs teams, mostly in List A cricket. In addition, he participated in just under half of Hampshire’s group matches in the 2011 Friends Provident Twenty20 tournament.
In the first match of the 2011 Clydesdale Bank 40, which Hampshire played against Surrey, he had a slow start. However, in the second match of the tournament, which Hampshire played after that, he scored 66 runs and scored his first half-century. It was two games later that he made his first century, which he accomplished against Surrey at The Oval. He made a lightning-fast 122 off of 113 balls. After the one-day season, Howell was Hampshire’s leading run scorer. After this match, he immediately made his debut in the first-class competition against Lancashire at the Rose Bowl, which was part of the County Championship matches.
