An Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian national cricket team in Test cricket, Sarfaraz Naushad Khan was born on October 22, 1997. He is a member of the Indian national cricket team. He has also played for Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In addition, he is a member of the Mumbai team that competes in the local cricket league.
In both 2014 and 2016, Sarfaraz was India’s member of the team that competed in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In addition to being an aggressive right-handed batsman, he also spins the ball sometimes and occasionally keeps wickets. In the year 2015, he made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the club RCB. At the time, he was the youngest player to ever participate in an IPL match, having just been 17 years and 177 days old. During the very following season of the Indian Premier League, he was the only player who had not yet been capped to be retained by a franchise.
His current age places him as the fourth-youngest player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). There was a mention of him and his younger brother Musheer Khan in the famous Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack in the year 2012 when he was 15 years old. The third test match between England and India was placed at Rajkot on February 15, 2024, and Khan made his debut on the international stage during that match. Following his debut in a test match, he became the fourth Indian cricketer to register two fifty-point scores.
When compared to the other 43 batsmen who have scored fifty or more on their debut in men’s Test matches (where balls-faced data is available), Sarfaraz’s strike rate of 94.2 remains by far the highest among those players. Sarfaraz was born and raised in the suburbs of Mumbai as he was growing up. He is a native of Azamgarh, which is located in Uttar Pradesh. It was at Azad Maidan that he spent the most of his boyhood. Naushad Khan, his father and coach, was responsible for the development of young cricket players like Iqbal Abdulla and Kamran Khan at that location.

It was at a young age that his father recognized his knack for timing the ball properly, which led to the beginning of his coaching career. Because it was difficult for him to go to the maidan (grounds) from his home in the suburbs during the rainy season, a synthetic field was constructed down next to his house so that he could practice there. “Not only does it save our time and energy but it has also helped him get used to bouncier wickets that he will have to deal with later on,” his father made the observation.
When he scored 439 runs off of 421 balls, he beat the record that Sachin Tendulkar had established for the Harris Shield in 1988. This brought him to the forefront of the public eye. While he was just 12 years old at the time, he participated in his first-ever Harris Shield game in 2009. During the game, he was representing his school, Rizvi Springfield. Within the innings, there were a total of 56 fours and 12 sixes. In a short amount of time, he began playing for the Mumbai Under-19 squad, and his effectiveness with that team ultimately led to his selection for the Indian Under-19 team.
In 2014 and 2016, Sarfaraz was a member of the Indian team that competed in the Under-19 World Cup. In the Under-19 World Cup that took place in 2014, sixteen countries were competing in a round-robin style. India ended in fifth place. Two of his innings were fifty, and he finished with a strike rate of 105.5. He scored 211 runs in six games at an average of 70.33, and he had a strike rate of 105.5. After he had such a strong performance, the Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased him for the 2015 season for the price of 5 million.
During the Under 19 World Cup that was placed in Bangladesh in 2016, India ended in second place. Sarfaraz completed the competition with the second-greatest number of runs scored as a participant. Throughout six innings, he amassed 355 runs, five of which were higher than 50, and he averaged 71 runs each game. He holds the record for the highest amount of fifty scored in World Cups at the Under-19 level, with seven fifties from two different World Cups.

The match against Bengal in 2014 marked the beginning of Sarfaraz’s career in the Ranji, which he played for Mumbai. Beginning with the 2015–2016 season, he began his career as a player with Uttar Pradesh. He had participated in 11 first-class matches by the time September 2019 rolled around, and he had scored 535 runs, with his top score being 155. In addition to that, he had participated in 12 matches of List A and had scored 257 runs while striking out at a rate of 96.25 percent. Sarfaraz achieved his first-ever triple-century in first-class cricket during a match against Uttar Pradesh in January 2020. The match was part of the Ranji Trophy matches for the 2019–20 season.
As part of the third test match against England, which took place in Rajkot on February 15, 2024, Sarfaraz Khan made his debut for the international team. Khan hit 62 runs off of 66 balls in his first innings, but he was out on the non-striker’s end because of a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja, who would go on to become a century. Additionally, he hit a six and nine fours throughout his innings. Hardik Pandya’s fifty, which he scored against Sri Lanka in 2017, was the other quickest fifty by an Indian cricketer on his debut. Khan’s fifty came in 48 balls, making it the joint-fastest fifty by an Indian opener.
