The West Indies selected Smith to be a member of their One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) teams for the series that they were going to play against Pakistan in November of 2021. In December 2021, he was selected to be a member of the One-Day International team for the West Indies series against Ireland. On January 8, 2022, he played his first one-day international in a match for the West Indies against Ireland.
Odean Smith, an all-rounder for the West Indies, demonstrated his ability to smash huge hits during the third one-day international match against India that took place in Ahmedabad on Friday, the day before the blockbuster auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). Smith scored 36 runs in a blazing knock that lasted 18 balls and included three sixes and three fours. Just a day before the Indian Premier League big auction, which will take place in Bengaluru on Saturday and Sunday, Smith went on the offensive and showed what he is capable of doing with the bat. This occurred when India was getting closer and closer to winning the match.
By participating in the next Indian Premier League super auction, Smith is expecting to secure a lucrative contract with one of the clubs. It is anticipated that Smith would cause a bidding war among the teams since he is priced in the top category of Rs 2 crore for the Indian Premier League mega auction that will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. Andre Russell, a fellow Jamaican all-rounder who has been a huge success with the Kolkata Knight Riders, who have won the Indian Premier League twice, is someone whom Smith has said he looks up to.
At the moment when Rahul Tewatia had erupted into a jubilant celebration, Odean Smith was on the verge of becoming kneeling. During the Indian Premier League 2022 match between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings, he was, of course, the recipient of Tewatia’s two sixes. At that time, 12 runs were going to be required in the last two deliveries. However, what would be hurting the PBKS right-arm seamer more was his rush of blood on the ball before that enabled Tewatia to go back on strike. Smith was certainly dissatisfied, and possibly even a little bit astonished, with his next two deliveries, which were right in the striking range of Tewatia.

Virender Sehwag, a former batter for India, referred to it as a “brain fade” opportunity. If Smith had not thrown the ball in his attempt to run Tewatia out at the non-striker’s end off the fourth ball of the last over, GT would not have been able to win the match directly. This would have been impossible for GT to do. Even though he had bowled a terrific ball, David Miller of GT had whacked it back at him. GT would have required 13 runs off the final two balls if he had managed to keep it, and even two sixes would have only been enough to push the match to a super over if he had gone for it.
In addition, Tewatia would not have gone on strike in the first place if they had avoided it. Even though Odean Smith has only played in four one-day internationals, the bowling all-rounder made his presence known on Wednesday by taking two wickets in the second one-day international match against India. Even though the West Indies faced a loss by 44 runs, he contributed with 24 runs while batting lower in the order. Smith, who is 25 years old, expects that consistency will be essential going ahead. You must maintain consistency when playing this style. The Twenty20 format only allows for four overs for bowlers.
