Cricket South Africa presented Ngidi with a national contract in March of 2018, before the beginning of the 2018–19 domestic season. The announcement that he will be a part of South Africa’s team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup came in April of this year. Ngidi achieved his first five-wicket haul in one-day international cricket on March 4, 2020, during the second one-day international match against Australia. During the same match, he became the quickest bowler for South Africa, in terms of matches, to take 50 wickets in one-day internationals. He accomplished this feat in his 26th game by taking 50 wickets.
In July in the year 2020, Ngidi requested the national team, requesting that they have a conversation about the Black Lives Matter movement in South African cricket and they showed their support for the cause. In addition to that, he tackled persistent racism in the sport of cricket. Ngidi remarked that he would not mind taking the lead in the efforts of the squad, and he also noted, among other things, that “We’re all together again in person.”
An injury has rendered Lungi Ngidi, another of the Delhi Capitals’ abroad players, unable to participate in the forthcoming Indian Premier League season. This news came only one day after Harry Brook announced that he would not be joining the Delhi Capitals team for the upcoming international competition. The Indian Premier Tournament (IPL) stated on Friday that the South African bowler would not be participating in the 2019 season of the tournament. Jake Fraser-McGurk has been named as the player who will take his position.
