It was in February of 2022 that Sams was chosen to be a part of the Australian team that would compete in the five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches that were played against Sri Lanka. In the latter part of the same month, the Mumbai Indians completed the purchase of his services via the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League competition. Since the year 2018, Sams has been an integral component of the team, having taken 100 wickets in the Big Bash League and scoring 732 runs.
At the beginning of his career in the Big Bash League, Sams played with the Sydney Sixers for a short period. After one season, he made the transfer to the green side of Sydney, and he hasn’t looked back since. Throughout his career, the bowler has shown to be an indispensable asset in a multitude of matches, earning him the title of player of the match no less than four times. Sams is often relied upon with the bat as well, and during his career in the BBL, he has hit more sixes than fours. He is in the middle of the lineup for his ability with the ball.
The pursuit of the Texas Super Kings seemed to be in danger of breaking down when Shadab Khan confronted Mitchell Santner with a breathtaking googly. In 13.1 overs, they had scored 92 runs for five, and they needed to collect 80 runs from the remaining 41 balls. The San Francisco Unicorns seemed to be on the verge of securing two very significant points, which would allow them to climb up to fourth place and put more pressure on the Michigan New York team, who still had a game to play to qualify.
However, Daniel Sams performed a great favor for MI New York by staggering the Unicorns with a whirlwind knock of 42 runs off of only 18 deliveries. This knock turned the tables on the Unicorns. At the same time that Shadab was sending Santner packing, Milind Kumar was finally letting go, and the gradual change in the tide was beginning to take effect. Up until that moment, he was having a difficult time in a steep chase (batting on 24 off 28), but he managed to knock the leggie away for a four and a six, which helped to make the equation a little bit easier.

The pursuit was characterized by the following three overs, during which the Super Kings fiercely seized control of the situation from the Unicorns. Following the 14th over at which Shadab scored 12 runs, Milind and Sams grabbed 17 runs, 16 runs, and 21 runs from the following three overs bowled by Marcus Stoinis, Haris Rauf, and Shadab, respectively. Sams had no time to swing into action since he began by driving one down the ground and carrying Stonis over long-on. He did this without taking any opportunity to swing into action.
He selected Rauf’s slower one on the first ball of the following over, placed it for a six down the ground, and then played a smart late cut past backward point in the same over. Both of these feats were accomplishments. As Shadab’s shifting lengths did not affect Sams’s stroke selection, he reserved the most devastating devastation for the leg spinner by hitting him for three consecutive sixes. These sixes were over midwicket, square leg, and midwicket again. And with that, the equation consisted of 14 balls out of a total of 18.
