South African-born cricketer Glenn Dominic Phillips, who plays for Otago in the domestic league and for the New Zealand national side, was born on December 6, 1996. In February 2017, he made his debut for New Zealand abroad. He received a call-up to the New Zealand Under-19 Cricket World Cup team in December 2015.
The 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup roster for New Zealand included his younger brother Dale in December 2017. On December 4, 2016, Phillips made his Twenty20 debut against the Otago Volts in the 2016–17 Super Smash, opening the batting with 55 off 32 deliveries. With 369 runs, he was Super Smash’s leading run-scorer.
In the last regular season game between the Stags and Central Districts, which the Stags won by Duckworth-Lewis, he hit his first century (116 not out). After Hamish Marshall, he became the second player in the country to score hundreds in all three forms of the game; Phillips was the first to do this in a single domestic season.
On March 6, 2017, he played his first-class debut against Canterbury during the 2016–17 Plunket Shield season. He received an Auckland contract in June 2018 for the 2018–19 season. He was one of the five players to watch in the 2018 Caribbean Premier League. Before the 2020–21 domestic cricket season, Auckland made him a contract offer in June 2020.

He received a call-up to the Jamaica Tallawahs 2020 CPL team in July 2020. He participated in the Hundred’s first season as a player with Welsh Fire in 2021. He received a roster spot with the Barbados Royals in the August 2021 Caribbean Premier League. The Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased him in the February 2022 Indian Premier League auction.
For the 2022 T20 Blast in England, Phillips resigned from Gloucestershire in April of 2022. Phillips committed to play for Otago for the 2022–2023 New Zealand domestic season in April of that year. He went to Otago with his younger brother Dale and said that he wanted to work with coach Dion Ebrahim to develop into a true all-round player. He signed a cricket contract with Central New Zealand in May 2022, therefore his agreement did not affect the Otago retainer wage budget.
After Martin Guptill was ruled out due to injury in February 2017, Phillips was added to New Zealand’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against South Africa. In October, he was selected for the One Day International (ODI) team against India, having made his debut during the series.
While he did not participate in the ODI series, he did participate in the second and third Twenty20 Internationals in the series and managed to hold his spot in the squad when they played the West Indian and Pakistani teams that subsequently visited New Zealand. Later in the year, Phillips participated in further Twenty20 Internationals; however, he left the New Zealand squad and did not appear in any matches in 2019.

He was flown to Sydney before the third Test match of New Zealand’s tour of Australia in January 2020 to cover for the sick Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls. Since neither player could play, Phillips made his Test debut, making the most runs (52 runs) in New Zealand’s first innings.
In November 2020, after the cancellation of most of the team’s planned matches due to the COVID-19 epidemic, he made his return to the New Zealand Twenty20 international team. This was the team’s first T20I series since then. He achieved his first T20I century in the second game over the West Indies. With 108 runs in the innings, Phillips became the quickest batsman from New Zealand to achieve a century in a Twenty20 International match, doing so in 46 balls.
After making many more T20I appearances, Phillips received his first central contract with New Zealand Cricket in May 2021. He made his debut in August and made it to the finals of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he scored 105 runs in all of the team’s matches. He was included in the New Zealand ODI and T20I teams for their tours of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands in June of that year.
He played in every ODI and all but one of the T20I matches during the trip after making his ODI debut on July 10, 2022, against Ireland. Phillips was a member of the New Zealand team that competed in the Australia 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In the team’s second tournament group match, he made 104, his second century in Twenty20 international cricket against Sri Lanka.
