Umesh Kumar Tilak Yadav is a cricketer from India who was born on October 25th, 1987. He is now a member of the Vidarbha cricket team, the Indian national team, Essex, and Gujarat Titans, all of which compete in the Indian Premier League. There was a squad that won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, and Yadav was a part of the team. In addition to becoming the first member of the Vidarbha squad to have participated in a test match, Yadav is a right-arm fast bowler who has been playing for the team at the local level since 2008.
It was against Zimbabwe in May of 2010 that he made his debut in the One-Day International (ODI) format. In November of the following year, Yadav made his debut in a test match against the West Indies. He was the player who took the most wickets for India in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, and he was also the third-highest wicket-taker overall. After hitting 31 runs in 10 balls with a strike rate of 310 against South Africa in October 2019, he now owns the record for the highest strike rate in an innings in the history of Test cricket.
In the years leading up to his career as a professional cricket player, Umesh made three failed attempts to join the military and the police force. Yadav made an effort to establish himself on the college cricket squad, but he was unsuccessful in doing so since he did not participate in any club cricket. Afterward, in the year 2007, after having never played cricket with anything other than a tennis ball before.

The first time Yadav bowled with a leather ball was in the Guzder League ‘A’ Division cricket event that was organized by the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA). Yadav joined the Vidarbha Gymkhana, which is a club that is associated with the VCA and was founded in 1969 by J.A. Karnewar. To guarantee that Yadav was able to compete for Air India in a Twenty20 competition, Pritam Gandhe, who was the captain of Vidharbha’s Ranji trophy side, provided him with assistance.
Gandhi made the following observation on Yadav’s early career: “He was raw and wayward. However, he wasn’t just fast; he was much too quick. I assumed that he would be able to cause problems for batters if he was able to land at least three out of six balls in line with the stumps. Yadav made his debut for Vidarbha in the first-class competition on November 3, 2008, when they played Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy for the 2008–2009 season.
Yadav did not bowl in Madhya Pradesh’s second innings, although he did take four wickets for 72 runs (4/75) in the first innings, even though his side won by ten wickets. His first wicket was that of Himalaya Sagar, who was out bowled. In the Ranji matches that Vidarbha played during that season, he participated in four of them and took 20 wickets at an average of 14.60, with his best statistics being 6/105.
During the 2008–2009 season, Yadav also made his debut in the one-day format. As a result of his time spent playing for Vidarbha, Yadav was chosen to compete in the Duleep Trophy under the Central Zone’s banner during his debut season. The engagement between Umesh and Tanya Wadhwa, a fashion designer based in Delhi, took place on April 16, 2013, and the couple tied the knot on May 29, 2013.

Both of the couple’s children were born in January 2021 and March 2023, respectively on the corresponding dates. As a result of his brother’s acquittal in a robbery case, Umesh’s family life was initially turbulent. He went from Jharkhand to Nagpur while he was still a little boy. During the first semi-final of the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy, which took place in January 2019, Kerala was the opponent.
In the first innings, he had a career-best performance of 7/48. He then returned with numbers of 5/31 in the second innings. Finally, he finished the match with career-best figures of 12/79, which helped Vidarbha advance to the final of the Ranji Trophy. Umesh was a member of the Delhi Daredevils for a total of four seasons before his signing with the team in 2010.
With 19 wickets that he took from 17 matches and an average of 23.84, he finished the 2012 Indian Premier League season as the fourth-best wicket-taker. The Kolkata Knight Riders purchased Umesh before the beginning of the 2014 season. Before being released in advance of the 2018 Indian Premier League auction, he had played for the team for a total of four seasons. Royal Challengers Bangalore was the team that ultimately purchased him. By the end of 2018, he has taken 20 wickets over 14 matches.
He featured in just two matches in 2020, even though he grabbed eight wickets in 2019 from a total of eleven matches. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) released Umesh before to the 2021 Indian Premier League auction, and Delhi purchased him. The Kolkata Knight Riders were the ones that purchased him during the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League season, which took place in February of that year. When he faced Punjab Kings in 2022, he had the greatest performance of his whole Indian Premier League career by getting four wickets.
In May of 2010, Yadav was selected to be a part of India’s World Twenty20 team instead of Praveen Kumar, who was unable to participate due to an injury. However, Yadav did not end up playing in the event. In the latter part of the same month, he was selected to be a part of the team that would compete in a one-day international series in Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka and the hosts. Nine first-choice players were either rested or injured, therefore India submitted a roster that was not at its full strength.
