The Afghan cricketer Azmatullah Omarzai was born on March 24, 2000, and is from the Nurgal District of Kunar province, which is located in what is now eastern Afghanistan. By the time he was 14 years old, Azmatullah had already begun playing cricket. In January 2021, he made his debut for the Afghanistan cricket team on the international stage. The Afghan side that competed in the Cricket World Cup in 2023 had him as a member.
During his youth, he was a football player, but later on, he decided to switch to cricket. In Afghanistan, he completed his high school education and graduated. It was announced in September 2018 that he would be a part of the Paktia team that would compete in the first Afghanistan Premier League football competition. He made his debut in the Twenty20 format on October 7, 2018, while playing for Paktia Panthers in the Afghanistan Premier League for the 2018–19 season.
He was a joint winner of the player of the tournament title in the 2020 Shpageeza Cricket League, which took place in September of that year. For the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2018, Afghanistan selected him to be a member of their team in December 2017.
