An up-and-coming young cricketer from India, Shubman Gill was a member of the Under-19 Indian squad that triumphed in the World Cup in 2018. His performance in the local competitions guaranteed that he was recruited into the Under-19 World Cup Squad as the vice-captain. He is renowned for scoring large runs with flair, and this success brought him to the attention of the team. During the year 2014, he participated in the Inter-District Under-16 tournament, where he not only scored 351 runs but also broke the record for the opening stand with 587 runs. The British Cricket Council (BCCI) presented him with the award for best youth cricketer for two years in a row as a way to recognize and celebrate his success. The only thing he wanted to do was play cricket, and he was certain that this was his only goal. It was the family’s responsibility to ensure that he had the greatest possible support and environment to fulfill his aspirations of becoming a cricket player on the world stage. When he was younger, his father, who had aspirations of becoming a cricket player himself, provided his son with training. In addition to playing cricket, he enjoys swimming. He considers Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar to be his two favorite cricket players.
In February 2017, he was a member of the Indian U-19 squad, and, at that time, he was instrumental in the team’s victory against England U-19 in the series. Since December 2017, he has held the position of vice-captain of India’s team that will compete in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2018. In addition to being selected as the player of the tournament, he had a fantastic tournament, leading the team in runs scoring 372 runs, and was voted champion of the tournament.
As a result of India’s performances in the competition, the International Cricket Council (ICC) recognized Gill as the emerging star of the team. As of August 2019, Gill became the youngest Indian batsman to ever register a double century in a first-class match. This achievement created a new milestone for Gill. While playing for India A versus West Indies A at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago, he made 204 runs. He was 19 years and 334 days old at the time.
