Known as Akshar Rajeshbhai Patel, who was born on January 20, 1994, Akshar Rajeshbhai Patel is a cricketer who represents India at the international level. He is a bowling All-rounder who plays for the Indian cricket team in all forms of the game. Not only does he play for Gujarat in the local cricket league, but he also plays for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He bowls orthodox left-arm bowling and bats left-handed. He also bowls left-handed.
On June 15, 2014, he scored his first one-day international against Bangladesh. His inclusion in India’s 15-man team for the 2015 Cricket World Cup, which was contested in Australia and New Zealand, was a result of his selection. On the thirteenth of February 2021, he made his debut for India in a test match against England, where he got seven wickets. As a result of his debut in Test cricket, he became the eighth bowler for India to capture five wickets after making his debut.
Within the realm of test cricket, he is most well-known for his ability to consistently take wickets. There was just one first-class match that Patel participated in during his first season with Gujarat, but he had a more successful performance in 2013. The left-arm spinner, who spent the most of his time as a bowling all-rounder, signed his maiden Indian Premier League deal with Mumbai Indians before to the 2013 season. The India Under-23s won the championship of the 2013 ACC Emerging Teams Cup thanks in large part to his seven wickets, including a four-for in the semi-final match against the United Arab Emirates. He was one of the important contributors to the team’s success. In the Ranji Trophy competition that took place in 2013/14, he was one of the players who consistently performed well for Gujarat. He finished the season with 369 runs at an average of 46.12 and 29 wickets caught at 23.58. The British Cricket Council (BCCI) recognized him as the Under-19 cricketer of the year for the 2012/13 season at the beginning of 2014.
The India Red team announced in August 2019 that he will be a part of their squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy. The announcement that he will be a part of India C’s team for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy came in October of 2019. The Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians signed Patel in 2013, however, he did not receive the opportunity to play until he was released from his contract. The next year, in 2014, he was selected by Kings XI Punjab, where he went on to have an outstanding season, taking 17 wickets.
The Kings XI Punjab decided to keep him throughout the 2015 Indian Premier League season. During the 2015 season, he was a member of the Kings XI Punjab and batted lower in the order. He was responsible for 206 runs scored and 13 wickets taken. During a match against the Gujarat Lions on May 1, 2016, he grabbed four wickets in five balls, including the first (and only) hat-trick of the 2016 Indian Premier League season. This helped pave the way for Kings XI Punjab to win by 23 runs over the Gujarat Lions, who were now in first place in the standings. During the 2018 season, Kings XI Punjab decided to keep him on their roster.
Not only did Axar Patel become the ninth Indian player to capture a five-wicket haul in his first Test match, but he also became just the second left-arm spinner, after Dilip Doshi, to take a five-for in his first Test match. During the player auction that took place in December 2018, the Delhi Capitals were successful in signing him up for the 2019 Indian Premier League roster. For the 2021 season, the Delhi Capitals decided to keep him on their roster.

Patel was included in the Indian One-Day International team for the visit to Bangladesh as a result of his outstanding performance in the 2014 Indian Premier League. He made his One-Day International debut in the opening match of the series at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, where he took 1/59 runs. During the 2015 Cricket World Cup, he was a member of India’s 15-man Cricket World Cup team. In the Twenty20 International match that took place on July 17, 2015, he made his debut for India against Zimbabwe.
In preparation for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, India appointed him to the position of stand-by player for the team. Patel received a spot in India’s Test team for the series they were going to play against England in January of 2021. His return to international cricket came on February 13, 2021, when he played his first test match against England. This marked his return to the sport after an absence of over three years. Joe Root was the first person he took out in an international test match.
As a result of his performance in the same match, he became the ninth Indian bowler to achieve this feat on his debut. He grabbed five wickets during England’s second innings. As a result of his performance in his first series, which consisted of three matches, he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker of the series. He collected 27 wickets at an average of nothing more than 10.59. It was against New Zealand that he achieved his first-ever half-century in a test match later in the year.
Patel was selected to be a member of India’s team for the 2021 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup in September of the same year. On the other hand, Shardul Thakur took his spot in India’s roster effective October 13, 2021. Patel achieved his first half-century in a One-Day International (ODI) match on July 25, 2022, against West Indies. It was a match-winning six that he hit, and he scored 64 runs off of 35 balls. He stayed unblemished throughout the tournament.
