The year 2020 was the year that he joined the Sri Lanka Army, which resulted in a total transformation in his personality. He started adhering to rigorous dietary regimes and worked diligently to improve his fitness levels. In addition, he gradually decreased his weight by the amount of demands that were placed on him to achieve his intention of becoming a cricket player. Through the year 2020, he had successfully shed 22 kg and cut his skinfold levels in half.
Additionally, he improved his time to complete a two-kilometer run by ten minutes and increased his year-over-year test maximum from 16.1 to 19.2. Ajantha Mendis, who eventually became his first coach with the Sri Lanka Army when he joined the Army’s U-23 squad, was the one who instructed him. The outstanding achievements he had in the Army Commander’s Cup in 2020 led to his selection for the Lanka Premier League in the following year.
As a result of his first failure to be selected for the draft of the 2020 Lanka Premier League, he was placed in the supplemental category, which rendered him unable to participate in the competition. However, when the request was approved by SLC, he was elevated from the supplemental category to the developing category in the Jaffna Stallions team for the 2020 LPL season. This was made possible by the proposal of Thisara Perera during the promotion process.
The appointment of Theekshana to the SLC Blues squad for the 2021 SLC Invitational T20 League event took place in August 2021. His selection to play for the Jaffna Kings in the 2021 Lanka Premier League came about as a result of the players’ draft that took place in November of that year.
