Today, January 16th, 2018. Santner bowled Fakhar Zaman, a Pakistani cricketer, with a carrom ball, which was something he had been working on for some time but had only lately begun to include in his international arsenal. Due to a knee injury that he sustained in March 2018, Santner was unable to participate in the test series against England. This injury would keep him out of play for a period of six to nine months.
As a result of the injury, Santner was unable to participate in the English county cricket with Derbyshire or the Indian Premier League throughout the year 2018. The first time Santner appeared on the international stage was on January 11, 2019, when he played Sri Lanka in the lone Twenty20 International between the two teams. Subsequently, he went on to play in four of the five One-Day Internationals against India, as well as all three Twenty20 Internationals, and then two of the three One-Day Internationals against Bangladesh later on in the same summer.
